Most of those bands that were lauded on "live at CBGBs" albums were like the Dictators. The American version of Pub Rock maybe, stodgy and slightly dated jumping aboard the "punk" bandwagon. I was never convinced by Stiv Bators / Dead Boys either except Sonic Reducer of course which, like many, I first heard on... Not that I have ever given them more than a cursory listen We should probably have a thread for them and now we have - here it is Sonic Reducer
Dead Boys? What's yer verdict?

Loved Young, Loud and Snotty.Thought the Dead Boys were a great, raunchy, punk rock n roll band like the Dolls.Going to have to get Cheetah Chrome's book A Dead Boy's Tale.Sounds like it might be a good read.

I'm sure the snobby elitist British music papers hated them. One of the greatest Rock'n'Roll bands ever...

They were the closest an American group came to UK punk rock

What are their other albums like? Beyond the debut...

...the track i put on my previous post on this thread is my favourite song from their second and final album We Have Come For Your Children. It's an album that seems to get overlooked by people with only a passing interest in their recordings.
This is a slower melancholy but haunting ballad from We Have Come For Your Children that Guns And Roses covered in the 90s on their Spagetti Incident album. Sublime guitar on this from Cheetah Chrome...

Sublime guitar on this from Cheetah Chrome... To my ear one of the best lead guitar players in his class at the time. Definitely up there with Derwood and Mick Rossi on the other side of the pond.

Sublime guitar on this from Cheetah Chrome... Guns N Roses stab was OK but a bit polished. DBs version is magnificent, the tune like the accompanying lyric is in danger of disintegrating at any second. Best track ever about awkward adolescence. Originally by Rocket From The Tombs, I think.

Yep, Rocket. More bluesy rock than punk. Even though it's not their song, Dead Boys is definitive for me.

Yes, i had forgotten about it being originally a Rocket From The Tombs song, but as Cheetah Chrome was also in that band and co-wrote it, it could be said that it is equally a Dead Boys song

Wasn't Sonic Reducer originally a Rockets song?

...yes it was Johnny - 30 Seconds Over Tokyo was a Rocket From The Tombs song that Pere Ubu later recorded, too
