The Rascals song 'You Better Run' was a much covered nugget, here is Noddy & Co's version pre-Slade

Just got a load of reissue Yank psych LPs in and I must say that a lot of it is a real disappointment. Seeds, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Chocolate Watch, West Coast Pop Art Experiment etc. For every Pushing Too Hard or Incense and Peppermints, the rest of the albums are insipid MOR pop, sort of lounge music you see on bad sixties sitcoms. The only one so far to buck this trend is Electric Prunes Underground album which is great gonzo all the way through. Fortunately there was also a copy of Goblin's Suspira soundtrack, so at least I'll get my money back.

Fortunately there was also a copy of Goblin's Suspira soundtrack, so at least I'll get my money back. The WCPAEB were basically a boy band assembled by a 30-something trust fund nonce in order to gain access to young girls, but they produced some decent tunes in a Byrds-y vein on the first couple of albums. The Prunes were also a production project, although they asserted themselves a bit more on 'Underground' before disbanding and leaving the name to producer David Axelrod who put out the much-sampled 'Release of an Oath'. This is a standout by the original lineup.

The Black Diamonds - See The Way + I Want, Need, Love You [clip from Be Our Guest, 1966]
Two tracks from Lithgow's finest. See The Way is enjoyable pop. I Want, Need, Love You is explosive hard rock/proto punk
