Pretty sure that was the Alright Now tv series presented by Den Hegarty (ex Darts). It was a Midlands ATV show, so we got it in Nottingham. It was a mess visually, Hegarty got the boot after series 1 for being unprofessional. www.tvpopdiaries.co.uk/alrightnow.html

He was there pretty much every lunchtime. Very odd. Never found out why - though perhaps the cheap prices had something to do with it. He was a prodigious drinker though and always seemed to be having fun.

Hegarty was later on Tiswas. He always seemed too 'full on', not so much a crafted persona but real psychological problems. A Jim Carrey/Robin Williams of revivalist fifties doo wop.

I suspect you're right PU His Wikipedia page is fun and instructive... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Den_HegartySeems it all ended reasonably positively.... Hegarty lives with his wife and one son in Devon. He now works as a lecturer in psychology at Exeter College and with the Open University, but he is still singing. He has fronted an a cappella band called Slackapella,[citation needed] plus a 15-piece outfit called Soul Traders, and still sings with the doo-woppers, The Metrotones. Hegarty helped revive Darts in 2006[22] and still performs at occasional gigs with the reformed bandAlso, something I didn't know, and getting us back on track... he made a guest appearance on The Clash's album Sandinista

Hegarty does the Preacher's address on Sound Of The Sinners plus backing 'baritone doo wop'.
