I just bought a ticket to see the Selecter in November. Never seen them before.
The Beat were here recently.

The only band of this genre I really listened to was The Specials .Saw The Selecter supporting The Stranglers at Halesworth ,early 2000's and to be frank I thought they were awful .The singer , if I can call it that , did nothing but screech. Madness were really more pop based imo .I suppose it was almost a new variation of the punk era as it was politically motivated , but bar The Specials it didn't interest me . Surprised to read that Jon I though it was all a breath of fresh air at the time Madness were pop based but c'mon, they were a lot of fun - and a lot of those tunes have really stood the test of time What about The Beat? Arguably the pick of the bunch in my opinion Here's one of their absolutest bestest.... The Beat - Save It For LaterI didn't like Madness at the time , but can see now why they were popular . Like I said , couldn't and still can't stand Selected. The Specials though , yes , they had good songs and a political edge.....by far the best of the lot . I guess it was a sort of punk for everyone ,a lot were ex punks anyway .The Beat , not really for me , the only time they ever crossed my path was when Rankin Roger was on with The Clash at Top Rank , Brum .Having said all this I think ska was far more interesting and innovative than most of today's music.....apart from UB40 , if they count in this .......imo by a country mile the worst band ever to exist , EVER , all genres , all time .

Celebrate The Bullet is quite a departure from the band's first album. It's a genuine progression musically but it left me a bit bemused when I first heard it. It definitely grows on you, however. In fact, it's very good.

Yes, I remember being underwhelmed by that LP when I first heard it - I also grew to appreciate it
