I bought issues of 8 and 9 of this and to be honest I didn't really know what to expect. When both mags came through the door both came with a 7" single so for £5.95 it's pretty good value. Issue 8 has interviews with Mark Perry Alvin Gibbs and a slew of newer bands, some I'd heard and some I hadn't. As the title would suggest, it's more geared towards highlighting early bands however it also doesn't dwell on them either. Good production values and a good editor too. My only complaint is that it doesn't have any reviews. 8/10 www.safetypinmag.com

👍Aye, theres a new one out which I haven't ordered yet.
They seem pretty organised too.
Would be interested in hearing what you think of it.
As I said my only gripe is the lack of reviews of the music which has ways been a prerequisite for any fanzine/magazine I reckon.

Thanks for spreading the word
Sounds good but, like you, I'm disappointed by the lack of reviews

The new one looks good but reviews for a staple diet of any music mag.
What's the record like?

That was the reason why I bought it. Interesting stuff about his relationship with TG and Genesis P. Porridge. Never knew any of that.

Yeah, I have some TG bootleg stuff with Perry and Fergusson and Perry recorded some TG gigs for them (very badly). He used their studio and of course Fergusson became part of PTV when TG's Mission was "Terminated".

When I stayed in London in the late 80's I wasn't predisposed to either.
My experience of the punk scene in East London actually encapsulated the spirit of both bands coincidentally.

Does Smiths sell this mag ? Or do you have to buy in online ?

Does Smiths sell this mag ? Or do you have to buy in online ? Wouldn't have thought so. It's average to be honest, glossy and nicely produced but short and can't say I've been impressed with the new bands it has introduced me to. That said, the Mark Perry interview is long in depth and provides information I haven't seen before which is a rarity in any mag these days. I got the two copies from the website linked on here, I would buy it again but only if there was a specific interview or free single I was interested in.

Vic Godard in latest issue of Safety Pin - Safety Pin #11
Safety Pin #11 with Diaz Brothers / Criminal Mind split 7" Unintentional punk legends special featuring interviews with Chelsea, Vic Godard, Spizz, Geoffrey Oi! Cott and Disstraxx
It sez here..... ANOTHER SEASON, another issue. Got to say it's been a bit of a struggle getting this one together, but i don't think we've done too bad in the circumstances (SIXTEEN MONTHS SINCE I WAS LAST AT A GIG!)
So, by necessity, this has become something of a 'punk legends special' We've got gene october talking about chelsea's new album Meanwhile gardens and the places and people that inspired it way back when.
THEre's a marathon interview with one of my personal heroes of 1977, vic godard, who as frontman of subway sect always seemed to embody the true spirit of punk far better than all those bands that were constrained by the genre.
likewise SPIZZ. We have a brilliant and lengthy interview by Phil SINGLETON which will put a smile on your face.
PLUS GEOFFREY Oi!Cott, definitely legends too, at least among fans of yorkshire cricket and streetpunk. And, just to ensure there's one genuinely new band in this issue, WAYNE ELLIott talking to DISTRAXX.
AND THERE's the usual unmissable split 7", this time featuring DIAZ BROTHERS and Criminal Mind, both of which you will know if you're a regular reader.
AS ALWAYS, CLICK ON THE 'SHOP' button to get your copy....
