I don’t think we’ve done a UK DECAY thread on the new T.P. (maybe on the old T.P.?), if not, i think there should be, they were an influential band that tend to get overlooked. The Punks liked them… the Post-Punk kids did too… CRASS clearly did too as they released their phenomenal ‘Rising From The Dread’ e.p. Their gigs had an air of dark tension about them. I didn’t get to see them as much as i would have liked to. This is an early favourite - Steve Harle, one of the greatest drummers from that time. I listen to this and think… hmmmm… The Cult listened to this a lot too…

A couple of my favourites Andy.
Like Charge. Criminally underated.

Their gigs had an air of dark tension about them. Good band, gothic before gothic was a thing. IIRC at the gigs the regulars used to do a thing where they would swing their studded belts round like helicopters down the front. If you weren't careful you could catch a nasty gash. I think some of them were later in Furyo with Albi de Luca who was in Gene Loves Jezebel.

...yes, Abbo and Steve Harle formed Furyo from the ashes of UK Decay - This song takes me back to 1984, leaving home and moving into a shared house in Bedminster

Their guitarist Albi was good. I used to run into him round Shepherd's Bush around that time. We had mutual friends in a group called Geschlecht Akt.

^^ They played a fair bit round town in 83/84 and I think they had a single out. John and Seven, on the right, were from round my way. John was later in The Men They Couldn’t Hang, and Seven became a bit of an industry player, managing superstar DJs like Sasha and Carl Cox.
They were one of many interesting bands in that dark post-punk vein like UK Decay. For me, it was an exciting period, lots of creativity and variety before it became formulaic and boring with the likes of The Nephilim and The Mission.
Tea House Camp were another example. I don’t think they got around to cutting a record, though.

Yes, i think that whole early 80s 'Post-Punk' era was massively creative, before the 'Goth' tag became a common terminology in the late 80s. I did a bit of nosing around online, Geschlecht Akt released one 12" e.p. called, what else but "Foreplay" also found this live recording which is pretty good quality... www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbO-wmkrpeATea House Camp released one 7" called To Kill: Stab In Back

...yes, i think all those great big hairdos were largely responsible for the Ozone layer taking a battering during the 1980s. This is another great Post-Punk band i missed from that era - VEX did alot of gigs with Anarcho-Punk related bands, and released an e.p. via the Mortahate record label...

UK DECAY got off to a flying start in 1979 when Garry Bushell, reviewing the new singles that week, announced that this was the worst punk record ever recorded

Vex made their first appearance on the Mortarhate comp 'Who, What etc' with It's no Crime' which was a great track which was also included on their 12" on Fightback Records which was Mortarhates 'Corpus Christi' which was their'sister' label Quite rare now.
