I looked at the box set, but like so many of these things it is hugely expensive.

Agreed I prefer the records.
I suppose they're worth getting if you've lost all the records or are new to the music.
The Professionals boxset was a good deal however due to the erratic nature of their releases.
Still give it a regular spin.👍

I must confess it took me a while to 'get' Gang Of Four... i could accept Killing Joke grappling with Punk-Funk but not GOF for some reason... maybe i found them a tad dour and pretentious or something... but then around 1982/83 i picked up a bootleg VHS of four live sets from the German TV show Rockpalast at a record fair. Gang Of Four were one of the bands featured, and seeing a full live set impressed me a great deal. They were already upto album three by then (Songs Of The Free) but the live set included songs from all their albums. They had such amazing stage presence and energy... especially Andy Gill who stalked around the stage, attacking his guitar whilst never taking his eye off the audience... so that made me go out and buy all the albums.

I got the first album on release and played it to death. Great album. Never went further though.

I see Jon King has rejoined Gang of Four and they've also added Sara Lee on bass. Just US dates announced so far.
One of the best live bands I've ever seen.
