Ian Broudie, Lightning Seeds was in the Original Mirrors. John's Boys was probably a psuedonym for a bigger band like Spots or Janet and the Icebergs (Siouxsie). Lots of smaller clubs and big bands used to do that, often for a secret warm up gig pre tour.
And look at Bauhaus supporting The Books?!

Lol, I could probably name only a handful of band managers if I tried but I did remember that Wellers's dad was called John!

I wonder if the 'Friends' supporting Buzzcocks were Joy Division, they were certainly touring together that month, I saw them in Bristol a few days earlier.

Nine years earlier (1970).... Really hard questions, East of Eden had a minor hit, what? And Dave Arbus, the band's fiddle player, contributed to which seminal rock track?

Really hard questions, East of Eden had a minor hit, what? And Dave Arbus, the band's fiddle player, contributed to which seminal rock track? I had to look it up PU Funnily enough was playing that "seminal rock track" only last night and marvelling at it. The fiddle bit is blimmin wonderful. Well done Dave Arbus. I'd never heard of East of Eden but was just reading about their 1969 Mercator Projected LP which sounds intriguing One review states.... East of Eden's debut LP is one of the hardest-rocking albums to come out of the progressive rock movement, and maybe the best non-Rolling Stones albums issued by Decca during the late 1960s. It's also one of the most daring debut albums of its period, less tightly focused than, say, King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King, but otherwise equally bold and maybe more challenging.
What do you make of Mercator Projected PU?
I'd also never heard of, or even knowingly heard, their one and only hit single. I've now put that right thanks to the wonders of YouTube. It does sound vaguely familiar. It certainly gets the thumbs up from this pop kid.... East Of Eden: "Jig A Jig" (1971)[/quote]

Made more memorable as it was my first ever gig and just a few days before my 15th Birthday too. Would love to have gone to every one of those. Brilliant!
