Magic 9pm tonight
Saw this at the cinema 1978 and it had a disquieting effect on me which lasted a few days. Anthony Hopkins stars as a Ventriloquist who begins to lose reality with his domineering dummy. Far more than the extended Dead of Night short, the FX of dummy 'Fats' are quite groundbreaking. Burgess Meredith and Ann Margaret co star.

He went through a wee bit of a purple patch around about then did Anthony Hopkins. A Bridge too Far, Audrey Rose and by far his best performance as Frederick Treaves in 'The Elephant Man'.👍

Two Way Stretch
Starring the late Bernard Cribbins, Peter Sellers and David Lodge.
An amiable comedy about 3 lags who concoct the 'perfect alibi' by planning to escape from jail for a night to steal some diamonds, then to break back into jail before anyone finds out.
The interesting thing about this flick is how many aspects of the jail setting and characters were nicked for 'Porridge'!
Lots of familar faces in this one including Irene Handl and Liz Frazer, who, as we all know, were to appear in 'The Swindle together nearly 20 years later.
7/10.

...one of my favourite Peter Sellers films that used to get shown alot when i was growing up, was 'The Wrong Arm Of The Law' Has that been shown on Talking Pictures, too? Made in 1963 with quite a few of the same actors in it. The amount of films Peter made in the early 60s is astonishing

TPTV has an on -demand service now I believe but I haven't checked it out. A lot of these type of films are ignored in the modern era, possibly because of some of the content. I noticed in Two Way Stretch that there was a fleeting billboard ad for Robertsons Jam...well you can guess what was on it. My favourite movie of that era is 'The League of Gentleman' starring Jack Hawkins. Quite a risqué but contemporary(at the time) depiction of what does and doesn't constitute 'crime'.

Night of the Demon 23.00 Tonight
Absolute stone cold Brit occult classic in glorious black and white. Excellent performances from Dana Andrews as a sceptical professor and Nial MacGinnis as the devil worshipper. 11/10

Niall Maginnis' character definitely based on Crowley to some extent but it's Dana Andrews performance which makes this with some of the best dialogue put on film.
Some other cool cameos too. Watch out for Brian 'Foggy' Wilde of Last of the Summer Wine.😄👍😎

Kes
Classic Ken Loach slice of life.
Even more so if you haven't seen it for at least 35 years.
Brian Glover as the cheating gym teacher steals the show👍
9/10

Loads of those Robin Askwith Confessions films are on over Xmas including the Pop Performer one.
Pop Performer was the only film in the series to spawn a soundtrack album on the Polydor label, with musical numbers produced by Ed Welch, and credited to the film's fictional groups Kipper, and The Climax Sisters (played by Diane Langton and Linda Regan in the film, although Sue Martine provides Regan's singing voice). The album also includes music from Confessions of a Window Cleaner and in-character ‘Timmy Chat’ from Robin Askwith.

Or something else? This clip doesn't inspire confidence....

^Who the fuck would fancy him?!😄 Robin Askwith gets a name check in HMHB's Albert Hammond Bootleg Always makes me smile listening to Nigel sneer.... “She said that Robin Askwith was funny” (@ 1 min 10) Half Man Half Biscuit - Albert Hammond BootlegTalking to a girl on the south coast of France She was on an 18-30 but I still took a chance But on the last night ‘neath the stars of Marseilles She said that Robin Askwith was funny

I'm sure he ended up in Corrie a few years back playing a dodgy roadie biker who was trying to nobble Audrey Roberts....😄

Those films are fascinating time capsules of a disappeared world and of course full of British character actors most now no longer with us.
