Suspicious Minds for me. Honestly not much of a fan, though. Admire him more for what he did culturally than his actual performances.

In the Ghetto His Latest Flame Don't Cry Daddy (there is a video of his daughter singing this with Elvis as a duet a few years ago, quite touching) Heartbreak Hotel
I remember his death very well. I was 9 at the time , we were on Blackpool prom. It was like a member of the royal family had died. I remember thinking the Las Vegas era Elvis seemed a wrecked, tortured figure and projected an interesting take on masculinity.

I always thought George Michael's "Faith" was a rather close copy of "His Latest Flame".

In the end, Las Vegas became a prison sentence for Elvis and 'The Colonel' ended up losing his fortune through sheer greed, gambling it all away. The amount of money he squandered was staggering... Karma!
This is the first song i heard by Elvis as a small boy and it really affected me...

In The Ghetto is wonderful - a true classic It was obviously inspiring for Nick Cave as well. I remember being somewhat bemused when I first heard this back in 1984; a bit different to The Birthday Party! Still got the record

A shyster, a conman and a **** of the lowest order. He wasn't a colonel, enlisted in and discharged from the army after being certified as a psychopath, suspected of the murder of a woman in his native Holland, which is why he blocked the King from touring in Europe.
