Whatever the rights or wrongs of the internal Ukraine, you can't let democratically elected States be re inserted into a remade Soviet Union. Make no mistake, Putin and Russia would not stop at Ukraine, no more than when they said they only wanted Crimea. They have already followed the Hitler template of taking parts of other States under the excuse that they "want to be Russian" (even though even pro Russia areas voted for Independence). NATO is only a threat to a expansionist Russia.

I'm not gonna pretend to know enough to argue the point That said, based on what I do know, I agree with Doug. Plus I suspect Putin would have found an excuse to invade no matter what. Surely this is all on Putin?

Is it worth a nuclear war?
In my opinion,no.
Putin probably tells his people that Britain and America invade who they like so why can't we.
The whole lot of them are cockroaches using us plebs as pawns.

The whole lot of them are cockroaches using us plebs as pawns. Thing is that we spent a few years saying "is it worth a world war" in the late 1930's. You still have to do something in the end unless you give them complete carte blanche out of fear of confrontation. That is what Putin counts on and why he is forever getting his people to bring up the subject of nukes. We have a country Russia which is currently involved not just in invasion, murder and destruction of a sovereign state but is also effectively forcing people into "Mother Russia" and no doubt re educating them. Can't just turn a blind eye to it. We've been down that path before.

Plus of course messing around with other democratic countries and causing mischief eg Brexit, Trump, Alexander Litvinenko, Salisbury

Screams from soldiers being tortured, overflowing cells, inhuman conditions, a regime of intimidation and murder. Inedible gruel, no communication with the outside world, and days marked off with a home-made calendar written on a box of tea. This, according to a prisoner who was there, is what conditions are like inside Olenivka, the notorious detention centre outside Donetsk where dozens of Ukrainian soldiers burned to death in a horrific episode late last month while in Russian captivity. www.theguardian.com/world/2022/aug/06/russian-prison-camp-ukrainians-deaths-donetsk

Maybe not as cut and dry as it seems though. Good little piece. www.spectator.co.uk/article/alexander-dugin-darya-putin-russia-ukraine-assassinationloved this bit: "We likely will see some hurried arrests. No doubt there will be video footage of Federal Security Service officers bursting into a flat artfully staged with some bomb-making equipment, a gun, a teach-yourself-Ukrainian handbook, some US dollars and, maybe, a volume of Shakespeare (seriously: one was used as ‘evidence’ of the presence of British mercenaries fighting for Ukraine, as we all know squaddies are mad for a little King Lear)."

Seems that every time I tune into LBC or Times Radio this last few days they are discussing Putin possibly going nuclear. And they are deadly serious.

In my opinion, the worst case scenario might be the deployment (and sabre-rattling)of tactical nuclear weapons. Fear is the most powerful weapon in this conflict.

Putz has no qualms about pushing the button. His health is failing and he wants to go down in history. He imagines he's Peter the Great, but Beria is nearer the mark
