Thanks Stu
Resemblence is reasonable I suppose...
Funny how the Pistols have passed into history the way Elvis and the Beatles have. In some ways the modern world views them as a curio.

Funny how the Pistols have passed into history the way Elvis and the Beatles have. In some ways the modern world views them as a curio. Inevitable - and been that way for decades They're just another of the groups that crop up on the cover of Mojo, Classic Rock, Uncut or whatever They mean nothing to most kids today - just one of many artists from decades gone by

Most kids would probably yawn at some of their 'antics'.

...quite possibly. But then what current mainstream Pop Group is being closely monitored by M.I.5. and possibly the C.I.A. and F.B.I.?
They were arguably the most persecuted band, ever

Says more about the kids than the Pistols Andy.

...Could be. I'd love to proved wrong, but i'm not sure if music to kids nowadays, means what it meant to us in our youth.

No, it doesn't really mean much. Theres no real enthusiasm for it.
It's just background noise to a lot of kids.
For those of us growing up in the 70's it was all we had at times.

Can't say I was greatly impressed by Jonesy's book, became rather a list of who he'd shagged over everything else. Always preferred "Spunk" to the studio polish of NMTB. The reason there was so sex in it was because it was his way of dealing with child abuse. I thought it's easily the best Pistols book. Better than Lydon's drivel in 'Anger is an Energy'. Just didn't appeal much to me, although I thought it was amusing when he admitted he didn't like punk much and preferred American AOR bands. Only read Rotten's "No Irish" book and thought it was okay but screamingly arrogant as ever. Probably only Cook could write an unbiased tale and I think he's already said he has no intention of doing so. Don't think I've read a decent Pistols book, all a bit to much "It was me! I was the real creator of punk".

'Anger is an Energy' is a turgid overlong read.
You can get it for 2 quid in Fopp or a bargain bookshop for less!
I thought Jones' book went against the grain and it was really honest as a result.
Cook should write a book but he's obviously in the Jones camp but I still think it'd be an interesting read as he seems like a nice guy.
Go for it Paul.

Steve Jones said that if they'd not gone on the Bill Grundys Show and Glen had not left the band, they would have probably made more records. In retrospect he realised it all happened for them, too fast. To both him and Glen, the Bill Grundy Show was the beginning of the end.

England's Dreaming is still the best book on early UK punk and the Pistols Must give it a reread - it's been decades

It's actually a really good, candid and (in places) funny interview - Glen is really relaxed as he is friends with Gary Kemp
