One of the finest groups to emerge from the punk explosion
Certainly the most poptastic
Impossible not to love?

They were brilliant.
Even though I loved 'Spiral Scratch' and Magazine, they were different to Pete Shelley's vision
The Buzzcocks were Pete's band. He was one of the greats.
Often mimicked but never bettered.👍
Sadly missed.

That first album is a punk masterpiece. Taking the basic pop-punk template and creating a timeless album.
"Moving Away from the Pulsebeat" really showed what was possible.
Blimmin marvellous....

Not going to complain but...
Time's Up Autonomy Nostalgia Harmony In My Head ESP
And even this millennium's stuff, a couple off Flat Pack Philosophy (which I'll have to dig out again) are up there with the seventies classics.

For those of you that go beyond the comfort zone of their chart era... this Box Set includes their entire recorded output since they reformed. From Alive Tonight/Trade Test Transmissions onwards.

To be honest after the first album and that classic slew of singles I gave up. Not though choice but I just moved on and wanted a more aggressive sound.
I still think 'Everybody's Happy Nowadays'is the best thing they ever done.
Those wee guitar'nicks' throughout it sound really simple but they were clever and subtle.
Everyone goes on aboutthe 'Spital Scratch' EP being wonderful(which it was)but when Devoto left I think it became Pete's band and they were all the better for it.

I still think 'Everybody's Happy Nowadays'is the best thing they ever done They certainly only had one more UK Top 40 hit after "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" which was the wonderful Diggle penned and sung... "Harmony in My Head" Apparently Diggle smoked 20 cigarettes to achieve those gruff vocals Everyone goes on aboutthe 'Spiral Scratch' EP being wonderful(which it was)but when Devoto left I think it became Pete's band and they were all the better for it. Dunno about better - but different for sure The result? Two great groups for the price of one... Magazine and Buzzcocks For those of you that go beyond the comfort zone of their chart era... this Box Set includes their entire recorded output since they reformed. From Alive Tonight/Trade Test Transmissions onwards. View AttachmentSeeing as your recommendations invariably yield solid gold, I'm tempted to splash the cash if I can find it at a reasonable price Cap doffed as always

I'm mulling this over as it comes with quite a hefty price tag That said, today I have been getting stuck into Modern (1999) which I am really impressed by Interesting to hear them try something new with the arrangements

Yeah... 'Modern' is the Buzzers dabbling with electronica as well as guitars - some great songs

'Spiral Scratch' is the 2nd most important punk rock record after 'Anarchy in the UK' I'd have them the other way round Anyone could make Spiral Scratch with a bit of cash and a bit of imagination Anarchy needed EMI

Today's album of the day... All Set (1996)
I never bothered with it at the time so it's like a new Buzzcocks album
First impressions are positive
