I agree Andy, that would be more progressive musically but economically trading under the Buzzer's name will pay the bills. Diggle on his own moniker wouldn't be much of a draw.

Last time I saw them with Pete (2017) I thought they should pack it in as they seemed lifeless.
Ironically just a few months before that they played in a village hall in the moors above Manchester and it was great.

To be fair, Steve looks like he is focusing on the song there, rather than just dicking around. I don't really know if continuing as the Buzzcocks now that Pete is gone is a good idea... Steve is a good songwriter in his own right, and if they release a new album i will certanly give it a listen. He mentioned in an interview that Pete told him that he was going to quit and urged Steve to continue with the band. Yeah, 'drunken karaoke' was probably a bit harsh.
Steve's honed his position as songwriter, guitarist and vocalist over many decades but personally I don't think he's cut out to be lead vocalist (for Buzzcocks).

Doesn't there just come a time with a lot of bands where it's just going through the motions to pay the bills? Having just finished the first of TV Smith's tour diaries, you can see what a drudge the lifestyle is to survive at a certain level of popularity, largely playing to the same hardened souls in the same venues year after year. A weird sort of symbiotic relationship between the two sides of performer and audience to keep the "teenage dreams so hard to beat" alive? I suppose (The) Buzzcocks are maybe a slight level above TV Smith with a slightly bigger audience but then there are more overheads to pay with a band. Can see why these outfits have good and bad nights.

i ordered this last week - whatever concerns i may have about the Buzzcocks without Pete, Steve Diggle has written some great songs, so i thought i'd take a punt on this... (hope the cover artwork is better than this though!) Buzzcocks: Senses Out Of Control, 10″ Vinyl EP Released April 29, 2022. • New 10-inch single from punk icons Buzzcocks • ‘Senses Out Of Control’ offers a sneak preview of the new LP, and is issued on the back of Buzzcocks’ forthcoming live dates. • Released on limited edition vinyl boasting two exclusive non-album tracks.

Decent gig, plenty of post-reformation songs and a few from the forthcoming album including one called Manchester Rain.

That title track of the new 10" e.p. sounds pretty good to me. I do 'get' why some people say "No Pete, No Buzzcocks" after all, he did write the bulk of their best known songs, but Steve's written some real gems too - this was tucked away as a B-side of a maxi 12" from 1993
