www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62919634This is truly sickening. I suppose most bands will go along with this, as this is the zeitgeist now. Absolute ruthlessness. What hypocrites bands like Coldshit are. You can only conclude that they hate their own audiences, seriously. During a fuckin' cost of living crisis too. Absolute scum. They are practically auctioning tickets. You can bet that they will eventually come up with some other outrageous idea to screw even more cash out of us. A new Ticketmaster pricing system, which alters the price of tickets based on demand, is being criticised by both fans and industry experts.
Called dynamic pricing, it has been used in the UK for recent sales by Harry Styles, Coldplay and Blackpink,
The system is regularly used in the US, where the resale market is a lot bigger, and touting is more prevalent.
Ticketmaster say it is being used to try to stop touts, and to give more money to artists.
But fans say they are being priced out of concerts, with some tickets doubling in price.

I'm divided on this. Obviously it's rampant capitalistic driven greed. On the other hand anyone who goes to see Coldplay and Harry Styles probably shouldn't be allowed to have much money anyway.

I'm amazed it's taken this long
It must be galling for Springsteen etc. + Ticketmaster etc. to see touts making so much money, so they've done the next logical thing
It really only works for big stadium acts though who most here have no interest in seeing
Doesn't make it right of course
Though as PU suggests, it is a tax on bad taste

They could easily destroy touts and make sure only real fans got the tickets. If they really wanted to.
I also suspect that lots of people only go to these kinds of gigs so they can brag about it on social media and because they don't want to miss out on what loads of others are doing rather than because they really like the music. There is basic psychology behind all this, which the sellers know only too well. This presale thing is done to cause envy and to give the impression that an act is keenly in demand. If people get a sniff that others are giving something a wide berth they'll follow suit.

^I think people have got to be aware of how these venues operate.
It's naive not to think they're out to rip you off. It's also sheer gangsterism too.
I'd have told them to stick their gig.

I don't know why bands like Pavement play the Manchester Apollo. They could easily play the university / student venues one of which is almost as big as the Apollo.
But of course the bands themselves think we all owe them a living.

A lot of these bands aren't as popular as they think they are.
If a 'headline' band is quite happy with this sort of 'business' activity, I wouldn't pay to see them.
There's a lot more competition for ears now and as a consequence what people spend their cash on.
I hate the sterile sound of these big venues and won't be back to them.

The Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry etc) are booked for Scarborough Open Air Theatre summer 2023. Tickets on sale this Friday but up to now, no matter how hard you look there is no price mentioned. General feeling is that Live Nation, Ticketmaster and Cuffe and Taylor promoters are watching the social media frenzy (it's mental) before setting the price. I expect this will be the most costly gig to have ever taken place here.

The OVO Hydro in Glasgow rarely gives prices either.
It's the sort of place the likes of Kevin Bridges plays and last time he did, there was fighting in the crowd 3 times in one week.
I will never go to this place under any circumstances.

They won't stop with this fluid prices shit. What will their next move be. Ideally they just want to put us in chains and enslave us. I'm not joking. Let's face it, they fucking hate us. That includes the wealthy bands who profess to be "progressive" or "rebels". It's worse than the mid 70s. 😁
