After 7 years of being off the Radar, TV Smith started doing low-key gigs again in 1990 with a new band called 'T.V. Smith's Cheap' I bought their single at the time and a few years later a compilation CD.

That's a great tune Andy - really anthemic I remember TV Smith's Cheap - though only vaguely I have double Anthology CD of TV Smith's Explorers which has a few nuggets A shame that these groups were not more successful, as it's unusual these days to see him with a group. It's normal just Tim and his battered accoustic. Whoe doesn't love Tomahawk Cruise...

TV Smith's Cheap did a Peel Session. Seem to recall a song called Third Term (about Thatcher ) being quite good.

Tomahawk Cruise was a Peelie favourite... he used to play it alot. TV Smith has been so prolific, there have been several compilations. He has high profile fans/friends too. German band Die Toten Hosen collaborated with him on this excellent record.

Most of them are faithful to the originals, such great songs that you dont notice the difference. Expensive Being Poor is a guitar based rather than the originals piano led.
There's also a fantastic 5 track ep with Punk Lurex, two Adverts covers tracks, a punk poem and two TV penned tunes: The Future Used To Be Better and The World Just Got Smaller Again. The latter is a spectacular rant against the mobile phone.

Die Toten Hosen also did an album of punk covers called Learning English. Brick field Nights, Nasty Nasty, Right To Work etc. It's interspersed with funny English language lessons.

I think that cartoon would be better aimed at the majority of white people Are only white people racist? and your fellow countrymen and their treatment of aboriginal people. Indeed. I have Aboriginal heritage myself. My grandfather and his siblings came within an ace of being institutionalised and made wards of the state simply for being AboriginalStill it's better to mock anti racism isn't it? I thought the cartoon was mocking zealotry. Totally different thing. Now, back to The Adverts. Far more interestingBear in mind that you regurgitated this with your ridiculous cartoon. Also bear in mind that these so called'anti zealot' cartoons should be seen in the context of what's currently happening in the world just now with BLM. How you can conflate so called zealots seeing 'phantom racists' everywhere when racists ARE everywhere baffles me. Seems to me you're not looking closely enough. It also begs the question:if you have aboriginal ancestry as you claim...why can't you see it? Whoever claimed that non whites couldn't be racist? However, as Australian history illustrates it's not the native people who should hang their heads in same, its modern Australians. Mind you what can we expect when they find music more 'interesting'than the reasons why some of their own countrymen were even supplanted?

And whilst we're talking all things TV, here's the man himself (turns out he's had Covid)... “LOCKDOWN HOLIDAY”I’m excited to announce the arrival of a brand new album to be released on 27 November 2020
Available to pre-order here.... This was a record I never intended to make. At the beginning of March I was about to embark on a lengthy UK tour with Stiff Little Fingers and I had more than fifty gigs planned for the rest of the year, including some of the biggest venues I had ever played supporting Die Toten Hosen in Germany over the Summer. There was no prospect of setting time aside for writing and recording, and it was, after all, less than two years since I released “Land Of The Overdose.” Then suddenly everything changed. Even before the tour started, news of the Covid-19 virus reaching Europe arrived. After only three dates the tour was abandoned, I headed back home, the country went into lockdown, and - even worse - a couple of days later my partner Sally and I fell ill and we realised we had gone down with the Coronavirus. If Britain’s government had taken the situation seriously and put the country into lockdown a week earlier, as much of the rest of Europe had, it would never have happened. But now the damage was done. From my sickbed I watched with utter disbelief as the mismanagement of the situation got worse and worse, and when I started to feel well enough again I did what any writer would have done: I began to write about what was happening. The resulting album will be released on November 27th, preceded by a free double A-side video single of two of the songs, “Send In The Clown” and “I Surf The Second Wave,” available on YouTube from 9th October. Local lockdowns permitting, I will preview the songs from the album along with some old favourites live at Blackpool Winter Gardens, home of the Rebellion Festival Acoustic Stage, at two socially distanced gigs on November 6th and 7th. The Winter Gardens has been awarded the Visit England “We’re Good To Go” industry standard confirming that it complies with the Public Health Guidance on Covid-19 measures being in place to ensure a safe visit for its guests. Ticket link here: www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk/whats-onThe album will be released on CD and vinyl formats in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by JKP, distributed by Warners, and on CD only in the United Kingdom and rest of the world by Easy Action, distributed by Cargo. It is available to pre-order in CD format only at a discounted price on tvsmith.com from today, reverting to full price on release. Price on the webshop includes postage according to country - please choose your correct territory! I think these are some of the most powerful and poignant songs I have ever written. I hope you agree, and enjoy my take on these extraordinary times. TV Smith Tracklist: THE LUCKY ONES BOUNCE BACK ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS FAKE NEWS LOCKDOWN HOLIDAY SEND IN THE CLOWN THE RACE FOR LAST PLACE JOIN THE MAINSTREAM GOOD OLD DAYS I SURF THE SECOND WAVE GOING NOWHERE FAST SEND IN THE CLOWN

By the way, surely ol' TV must know someone who could have knocked up a better cover than that?
