Mick Wall as good as ever covers the Eagles story. A band I have no love for as for me they represent the worst kind of US west coast, country easy listening pap, but the surrounding story and all the angst and power plays make for fun reading.

Yup, Mick Wall is always good value
Note sure even Mick can tempt me to read about the Eagles

His Zeppelin book is brilliant. By far the best I've read on the band.
I don't mind some Eagles stuff but probably won't bother with this.

There's a lot to dislike about the Eagles, not least the fact that people assume you like them if you like Steely Dan, which makes my blood boil.

Given the slick sounds of both filled the airwaves of American rock FM radio for decades it's easy to see why people make that assumption
There must be loads of people who love both artists. If you want smooth, easily digestible music look no further....

If you want smooth, easily digestible music look no further.... There's a world of difference between the Dan and the Eagles, although I accept that this may be unclear to those with a preference for shouty, amateurish indie pap.

Yes, they are very different but both work well on FM radio stations who want a smooth and easily digestible playlist - which is why they both got played to death and is a way the two groups are associated
I have music by both in my collection but am not overly fond of either but now and then I play the odd track. I marginally prefer the Dan but neither really provokes strong feelings

I wouldn't say Steely Dan were easily digestible. They are far more a refined taste, every track a new flavour. In the shop I can have the Eagles on in the background whilst I'm shifting boxes etc. Not with the Dan though, I only play test their records when I can give the album my undivided attention.

I guess I only know the big Dan tunes… Do It Again, Rikki, Reelin, Peg, Haitian etc
