We know Stu is a big fan... ...Anyone else? I've tried a few times to get into them but have not succeeded I neither like nor dislike them It's very odd I feel one day their music will click with me as so many people I know and respect really rate them

The only time I heard them was when they did a soundcheck at the T&C in Kentish Town 86-ish, my group were opening for them. They were thoughtful and atmospheric like Talk Talk.

They're a bit of a Marmite band But those who like them tend to be fanatical
This is their punkiest song (was in the 1982 Festive Fifty)

As with The Sound, The Chameleons got overlooked first time round, but retain a cult following now. I saw them as Chameleons Vox a few years back. The albums are OK, but the production sounds rather flat - however, the Peel Sessions album is AMAZING!!

The singer was in a band called the Cliches before he joined the Chameleons He is also the person putting cake in Johnny Rotten's hair in the footage of the Huddersfield Xmas Day 1977 gigs.

The Chameleons: Post Punk's Most Influential "Lost" Band
The Chameleons are the post punk band who've had the most amount of impact with the least amount of coverage. From In Shreds through to Strange Times and beyond, the Manchester (or rather, Middleton) group have influenced countless bands (from Interpol to Flaming Lips) and genres, including dream pop and shoegaze. So underrated is the work of Mark Burgess, John Lever, Dave Fielding and Reg Smithies that they may well be indie rock / alternative rock's ultimate cult band.

I was listening to a Peel British Forces radio programme from 1983 recently and he played two songs from their first album before going on to say that the album was too long.😁 He seemed to go off them after the second album which is a shame because they did some of their best stuff after that.
Like this
And this
And this

Love it - and I am now really waking up to their many many attributes
This one could easily go on the life reaffirming tunes thread
What a banger...

...i reckon this is better still. For me, as much as their records were great, on their Peel Sessions, they totally and utterly NAILED it!
Listening to this again makes me wonder... why weren't this band massive?? ...but maybe it was a good thing they were not

Some bands are just destined to stay cults .

Second Skin is a masterpiece, one of their few Festive 50 entries, I don't really understand why they didn't have many many more.
They had more than a few gems that didn't even get released until years after the first split. Like these:

After the split in 1987 two bands were created The Reegs and the Sun and the Moon
