Was just enjoying a bit of Sweet Suburbia... What's yer verdict on Dunfermline's finest? The Skids were formed in the summer of 1977 in Dunfermline Scotland and would go on to make 2 albums and seven singles before 1979 was ended and all bar one on the Virgin label. Arguably the biggest Scottish punk band of the 76-79 era, their most successful year was 1979 where they spent over half the year in the singles charts with hits like Charade, Working For The Yankee Dollar and their biggest song the top 10 hit Into The Valley.

Great band, loved Adamson's guitar work. Days In Europa is full of big Scottish swirl anthems which lays the template for Big Country. The post Adamson album Joy is a difficult listen, Jobson trying to go mystical folk.
Picks for me: Saints Are Coming, Woman In Winter, Arena and the first ever release Charles.
My mate interviewed Jobson after an Armoury Show gig at Rock City. All he wanted to talk about was Brian Clough, there wasn't enough copy to put in the local paper.

Yeah, the Adamson guitar work was epic
I had no idea he was so into football, or indeed Cloughie
And Jobson's dancing was always fun...

Hard to believe Jobson was only 15 when he formed the Skids. Male model, film director, TV presenter, married Mariella Frostrup.... only a month older than me, he makes me sick

Yeah. Some guys have all the luck.
Did anyone see The Skids when they reformed recently? I meant to go but didn't. Wish I had now.
Mind you, right now, I'd be happy to see any live music. It feels like a lifetime since I saw live music. I really miss it.

The Skids and The Ruts are always associated in my mind because they jointly represented the last occasions on which "punk" would regularly appear in the national charts and on TOTPs.
The Skids had accessible songs with big hooks and were a favourite of mine at the time.
I also liked Big Country and saw them twice in 1983. They never let you down in live performance.
Am I alone in thinking that Richard Jobson took very little time to become a pretentious twat ? The sight of that haircut and the sound of his blathering about things which he clearly didn't really understand became tiring very quickly.

I always thought Jobson was an utter pubic root and other than a few singles never bothered with the Skids.
Adamson was the real talent in the band and I always preferred Big Country.
Unpunky as they were.

Pretentious twat? Pubic root? No shame in either of those

Jobson was a serious tool. The only person who could 'out tool'him is Stephen Fry.

It's a tool off then?
I like both Fry and Jobson
I have a high tolerance for prententiousness
I wondered if there were any clips of them together on YouTube. Sadly not.
Instead we have Stephen Fry on God (The Meaning Of Life - RTÉ One) making some very good points...
And, in the blue corner, here's Richard Jobson on Finding your voice. Punk rock and the DIY mentality...
The choice is yours
I think the world's a better place for both of them

I think if I had to choose regarding who of the above two who excel themselves when it comes to climbing to the pinnacle of bellendism, it would have to be Fry.
Another talentless twat who looks as if he's been chasing parked cars all his life.
'The Crossing'by Big Country is miles better than anything the Skids came up with.
