Australians seem to be worried about the possibilities and there have been spates of panic buying all over the country, but you would think people would be stocking up on food or maybe just beer and cigarettes. No. The number one item people are hoarding is toilet paper. Supermarkets have introduced rationing and often the shelves are compeltely bare. My local newspaer ran a special edition yesterday with eight pages completely blank apart from dotted lines where you could cut the paper into one-ply emergency toilet paper. The resulting shortages from panic buying have driven some people to violence, threatening supermarket staff and even attacking other shoppers. This headline made me laugh... 'It isn't Mad Max': Police warning after shoppers brawl over toilet paper in Sydney“We just ask that people don’t panic like this when they go out shopping,” NSW police acting inspector Andrew New said. “There is no need for it. It isn’t the Thunderdome, it isn’t Mad Max, we don’t need to do that. What is it with stock piling toilet paper? What did we do before toilet paper was invented? Surely soap, water and a shower attachment would suffice if you ran out of toilet paper? Hang on, better stock up on soap

Actor John Travolta was hospitalised this morning with suspected Covid 19/Coronavirus.
However, after tests it was merely a Saturday Night Fever and he will be Stayin' Alive.

What are the chances of the UK going into an Italian style lockdown with footie etc cancelled or behind closed doors?
Seems quite likely to me
The NHS can't cope with thousands of cases at once - and I'm guessing the economic hit is better than NHS collapsing which is not a good look for any Govt
What do you think?
Surprised it hasn't happened already but I suppose the Govt gets accused of being too trigger happy until the number of cases gets to a higher level, then again it would be far more effective to move sooner rather than later

We have had one of the most moronic facebook rumours spreading around Scarborough that a local supermarket has shut as one of the employees has Corona virus. The place is closed as they are undergoing a refit.
Also down the road in Hull, a nightclub has closed as the owner says he's worried about mass gatherings and contagion. Nothing to do with him being declared bankrupt in January.

A fellow record shop owner has limited entrance to his shop to six customers only. I'm keeping in contact with him to see how he can enforce it. Like me, he's a bit of a misanthrope and doesn't like time wasters, so maybe he's using the crisis to get rid of the deadwood.

I'm impressed he has more than six customers at one time wanting to get into the shop

I don't know how busy he is usually but I can have up to a dozen in my shop on a Saturday. Not all buyers of course, spouses, children, friends etc. Even though the shop is reasonably spacious, social distancing would not be possible with that amount in. I am limiting my shop to four customers at any one time, starting tomorrow. Also opening later in the day as most of the timewasters are the early cheap breakfast crew who roam the town aimlessly.

Sounds sensible PU. Human nature being what it is, the harder you make it to come in the more people will want to enter

Record Store Day 2020 postponed.
I am also running the Scarborough Record Fair at the Easter Weekend. Whether it will go ahead is not my decision as other dealers may not want to come and the final say lies with the venue itself.

The Isle of Man Government has just announced that the TT is cancelled due to the coronavirus, and that all new arrivals to the island will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. Personally, I'd have sealed the borders completely – officially, we still don't have the coronavirus and we will struggle to cope if we get it.
