Reading this thread back it is amazing to me just how quickly we've gone from meh to full scale panic
Supermarket shelves emptied, well on the road to lockdown etc
All feels quite surreal
How are you doing?
Calm and stoical?
Alarmed?

I catch the news and suddenly I have all the symptoms. I turn the telly off and five minutes later I feel fine.

Hysteria does appear to be setting in. A friend from Hove – who was supposed to be coming over the week after next, though of course that's been cancelled – described the situation as a "living nightmare" and gave the impression that the shelves are pretty bare down there. Apparently there has been panic-buying at Tesco in Douglas as well, but I very rarely shop as I eat in restaurants seven days a week.
Still no coronavirus on the island, though the government doesn't appear to be cracking down much, despite activating emergency powers – I would have completely sealed the island's borders at least a fortnight ago.
Very few people are going out, however – some friends and I dined at the Regency Hotel in Douglas last night, which has the island's best restaurant. Aside from the three staff, we were the only people in the entire building. The bus home was otherwise empty as well. It's quite spooky seeing the island even quieter than it normally is.
Obviously, if they close the restaurants then I'm going to get disrupted, but my next-door neighbour says that if that happens she will cook for me every night. I'm lucky to have such good and kind friends.

The Government appear to be winging it - our response seems far less coherent than many countries

Some places have serious outbreaks but don't seem to be doing as much about it as others. Where I live there have been no deaths and only one confirmed case (not a local). And when I say 'where I live' I do not just mean the city, but the whole jurisdiction of 1.421 million km². We haven't closed schools or the like yet, but we have had plenty of panic buying and most public events are being cancelled. There is serious talk of sealing off the whole territory so that anyone travelling from elsewhere in Australia will have to go into quarantine. Sometimes it pays to be remote and have limited transport connections

The Isle of Man now has its first coronavirus case. The government has responded by shutting down the island's railways and arresting an English tourist under emergency powers for failing to self-isolate. He can look forward to a fine of up to £10,000 and up to three months in prison.

The Isle of Man now has its first coronavirus case. If they don't birch the offender they are begging for another

We've got our second already.
Yes, let's bring back the birch.
We'll have to screen people for a propensity for BDSM though, as they'll all be faking coughs to get a good lashing.

Even though there's no spectators in the stadium, BT Sport were beaming live soccer from Sydney and AFL (like Gaelic football) this morning. We haven't even got a Marbles tournament on UK telly.

Wonder if William Hills and Ladbrokes will be streaming that in their shops soon. " Twenty quid on Pinky Winky in the 3.30 at Legoland".

Shop now closed for a fortnight at least. I will go in on a couple of days and do a bit of decorating. Drove through Scarborough this evening the usually busy sea front was deserted, all the amusement arcades shut down as well as the bars and restaurants. Eerie.

I hope you're okay PU. Do you do online/mail order?
Weirdly Brighton seafront was packed with people having a jolly time on the beach - a lot of people really don't get it yet
