Great to hear Andy. Jack comes over as very down to earth, open minded and positive on that video.

...as he alludes to in that 'what's in my bag?' video, in his younger days he was a modern day Pirate, constantly getting into, or starting fights, doing crimes and generally raising hell. he had no idea of 'right or wrong' and it's remarkable he's still alive. There were death threats at one point and he had to escape to Alaska.
But like many habitual criminals, he reached an epiphany and came to realise he had to change or perish. He has tried to track down the people he harmed to seek redemption.

Jack is working on a documentary about the original band. He needed $60,000 to finance it... so far over $73,000 has been raised, so i guess it will be out sometime next year. Here he is talking about the project...

...it's hard to believe it now, but at the time 'Beneath The Shadows' is the sound of T.S.O.L. committing commercial suicide. They had built a reputation in Los Angeles as a formidable Punk Rock band with the first e.p. and the classic Dance With Me album So it sent half their large fanbase into a blinding rage of confusion... like wise songs like Weathered Statues, which i love... The original band really didn't give a shit about what they 'should' have been doing, it was worth annoying the Punk Police. Yeah. I don't get why some people expect bands to stick to one sound. Very closed minded. Sounds like roguepunk was one of those fans sent into a blinding rage of confusion. Still seems to be pretty angry about it all these years later. I'd rather see a band trying out new things and trying to develop creatively. TSOL were quite an extreme example of that attitude. Good on em I says.

Of all the TSOL albums I've enjoyed so far it's 2001's Disappear which has impressed me the most....
This is a splendid return to the their hardcore roots...

Quick question for Andy (or anyone else who has an opinion)...
To what extent would you recommend The Joykiller?
The Joykiller were a punk rock supergroup from Huntington Beach, California which formed in 1995 by Jack Grisham and Ron Emory after the disbanding of T.S.O.L. The Joykiller went on to recruit Billy Persons (The Weirdos/Gun Club) on bass, Ronnie King on Keyboards, and Chis Lagerborg on drums. They recorded one album on Epitaph records "The Joykiller." Ron Emory left Late in 1996.
The next line-up saw the addition of songwriter Sean Greaves on guitar. They recorded two albums on the Epitaph label, "Static" and "Three", and toured the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Ronnie King was replaced by Paul Roessler in 1997.The joykiller disbanded in 1998.
Hate sounds encouraging....

In other TSOL related fun this gets quite amusing at around the 40 second mark when things start to disintegrate...

...Lordy, that must have hurt, but as you see, Jack doesn't make a big deal out of it and instead thanks the audience and makes a joke about suing Fletcher from Pennywise.
Yes, "Disappear" is a really good album - they have released four since reforming with Jack.
I had the first Joykiller album... but to be honest, was a bit disappointed by it. The album they released called THREE is rather good though. Not at all a Punk record, just great songs...

No that's completely unrepresentative of the narrative of Blush's book. I mean the likes of TSOL for example used hardcore briefly after 1 ep before they went onto do some shite goth albums before they became an embarrassing poodle rock band. Fakes of the highest order. Blush doesn't shirk from mentioning this. Anyone who has listened to TSOL can hear that they were total opportunists. Do some research👍 Not a fan then Roguepunk ? Never heard of them but I bet they're racist

Not a fan then Roguepunk ? Never heard of them but I bet they're racist Funnily enough Blush is very complimentary about them and never calls them "fakes" or "opportunists" - he actually says TSOL "were always a step ahead of the curve"
Their first supposedly hardcore EP was just some songs they didn't rate. They gave them to Posh Boy records who released the EP who they thought would most likely rip them off and saved "the good stuff for later". At the time of the first EP singer Jack Grisham was already embracing a goth look which is what annoyed and alienated the hardcore purists.
He doesn't mention racism either - but of course that might change with the next edition
I've been listening to TSOL quite extensively of late and am finding loads to enjoy - far more so than a lot of the meat and potatoes hardcore groups around at the same time

...i am glad i started this thread, then Lord Of Emsworth. I remember doing a 'TSOL Top 10' (...or some similar number) on the old T.P. and took some stick for some of my choices, from a certain member of the page. Funny how some 'Punks' can be so narrow minded... innit?

...it probably was - although there are tons of great songs to choose from as a number one. This is the choice that got the T.P. Punk Police in a bit of a Tiz though
