"Tories did it!" is certainly one way of looking at it (and inevitably the one preferred by commentators in The Guardian and the Independent).

Another is to say that while there's no excuse for that sort of disorder, it's not entirely surprising that people are becoming aggrieved by barely controlled immigration, particularly when all too many immigrants and their scions – allegedly including Axel Rudakubana – have committed appalling violent crimes against indigenous Britons.

There are many contributory factors but systematically cutting public services and then promoting the idea that immigrants are taking housing, doctors appointments etc was behind Brexit and is now a major factor in the current disturbances

And there is indeed no excuse for what we're witnessing at the moment - it's just naked racism which the Tories and Reform have helped normalise through their constant rhetoric about boats (whilst also, in the Tories case, presided over huge amounts of net migration which they've sanctioned post Brexit)

It's ugly and disturbing but I don't see significant parallels with 30s Germany

The security services must have requested Twitter shut down Yaxley-Lennon’s account

Be interesting to see what else happens to Twitter given its role in the disturbances

It’s such a degraded brand but clearly a place where disinformation goes unchecked and has also been helpful in fermenting this criminality
