It's going to be interesting to see what - if any - changes the Govt will make in terms of education. I'm a Learning Support Assistant at a school in one of the areas that has recently ( and regularly ) been targeted. We do have children from this hotel, so am anticipating an interesting first few days when we return in Sept.
The Govt have talked about more emphasis on the arts and sports, which is desperately needed.
I expect ( and hope ) we'll be putting more efforts into dealing with racism and online content.

I expected people in their teens and early twenties (youthful exuberance gone wrong) to get the early morning calls from Plod but those in their forties FFS. And after Elon Musk's ridiculous comments, how many on the left are going to close their Twitter/X accounts? Very few I'll wager.

A lot of the disinformation is being shared by people who were previously banned and have been let back on since the Musk takeover

It’s stupid gullible people who are susceptible to simplistic false narratives that scapegoat minorities The oldest story in the book It’s incredibly depressing Undoubtedly enabled by the normalisation of these narratives by mainstream politicians Social media amplifies the lies What is encouraging is that the numbers are still very low relatively - these are fringe views It’s important we counter these narratives and also start making the argument for immigration which we desperately need Yes, get control of our borders but also make the case for why we need more people and the benefits they bring |

Rioters in court: 30-year-old weeps in dock and cries for mum

A suspected rioter wept in the dock after being accused of swinging a stick at a woman during an anti-immigration protest in Sheffield.
Curtis Coulson, 30, was the first person to appear at the city’s magistrates’ court on August 5 after disorder broke out over the weekend. Coulson, of Woodhouse in Sheffield, denied a single charge of affray during a short hearing.
The court was told that a masked Coulson allegedly approached a woman with a stick, which had come from a broken placard, outside Sheffield City Hall, and waved it in front of her in a threatening manner while masked. The charges relate to an incident caught on CCTV, prosecutors said.
Coulson, who was dressed in a black waterproof jacket, sobbed as Judge James Gould remanded him in custody. The judge said he will next appear at the court on August 12 and will stand trial on September 20.
Coulson called out to his mother, who was in court, as a security officer led him from the dock.

Wonderful to see so many ordinary people out on the street last night across the country in a show of unity against the far right thuggery of the last few nights Hopefully this, along with the quick sentences, will stop the criminality
I've seen it a few times but the banner in Brighton last night....

Those being sentenced today and yesterday already have criminal records stretching back years. Yet there are still people on social media trying to portray as martyrs or even brave English warriors. Makes you weep.
