Modern Day Junkshop Glam from Hammered Satin - hope this stomper gets released on a 7" That's great Andy I'd not heard of Hammered Satin but it turns out they've got quite the back catalogue... hammeredsatin.bandcamp.com/Their shop has a few bits and pieces but no sign of Avalanche... www.hammeredsatin.com/merchThis is how they describe their Velvet Vortex LP... Los Angeles power house Hammered Satin boast an all star line-up containing four lifers who've done time in various legendary bands including the Zeros, Flamin' Groovies, Flytraps, S’cool Girls and Teachers Pet.
These guys have been riding their own Glam fueled rockin' rollercoaster for nearly a decade now and on their second album, 'Velvet Vortex', they set their time machine to the 1970's and throw away the key.
On 'Velvet Vortex' they take you back to the mid 70's pre-punk Glitter days brandishing a powerful, high-energy Glam Rock sound that brings to mind the Glitter filled, glory-days of bands like Slade, the Sweet, T. Rex, Mud and the Glitter Band.
Their music is built around bold, monstrous riffs with a tuff, driving rhythm section blasting nearly a dozen souped up tracks of mid-fi rumble rock.
It's bubblegummey and infectious and infused with the Junkshop Glam electricity of bands like Chicory Tip, Hello, Spiv and Hector complete with a rolling thunder recording style straight outta 1974. Hammered Satin boldly carry that dimly lit Glam Rock glitter torch back into the 21st century unleashing this flat out scorcher that includes back-up vocals by uber Glam aficionado Don Bolles of the Germs.Hats off eh? Copping a listen to Velvet Vortex via Bandcamp hammeredsatin.bandcamp.com/album/velvet-vortex-2

Over this weekend, i got the downloads on the vinyl pre-order of this new fabulous album by (John) Rossall ...one of the true architects of Glam Rock. I first read about this new record back in the summer and have been following his posts online regarding it's release. It's been well worth the wait. John is now in his mid 70s, but this album is bursting with energy and experimentation. John Robb contributes some vocals on a couple of songs. Can't wait to get this album on vinyl! Attachments:

There's clearly alot of thought and love gone into making the album... some riffs that are a nod to The Glitter Band. The production is superb. Along with "Fear Of A Glam Planet" i really like "Get Go Girl" "Got My Groove" "Equalizer" "Neon Lights" "Blackpool Rocks" "Glitterbomb"

Listening to the album on headphones, the production really shines out.
There's a Post-Punk feel on a couple of tracks e.g. "Neon Lights" "Got My Groove" which reminds me of the work of Alan Vega/Martin Rev impressive for someone whose been relegated to the Cabaret/Nostalgia circuit for decades...
The album sounds very contemporary.

It's a mighty impressive album. I should be getting the vinyl at the end of this month. Listening to it made me go checkout John's solo records from the 70s
This should have been a hit...

It's a mighty impressive album. I should be getting the vinyl at the end of this month. Listening to it made me go checkout John's solo records from the 70s This should have been a hit... That's pretty good isn't it? It came out in 1975 according to Discogs... www.discogs.com/artist/686790-John-RossallPerhaps it arrived just a bit late in the day? It was preceded by I Was Only Dreaming, which was released on Bell (like the Glitter Band) and produced by Mike Leander. Not quite such a strong song as It's No Use Telling Me No but I do like his cockney and somewhat tuneless vocals, and by the end the chorus was lodged in my head... John Rossall - I Was Only Dreaming

Just reading more about The Last Glam in Town and I discovered that Jon Langford offered Rossall a track called Hey! Rockstar which Rossall loved. Unfortunately Jon then changed his mind. Having heard it I can see why he wanted to keep it for himself. A shame as it would have fitted right into the Rossall album... HEY! ...that reminds me of the story about Bruce Springsteen writing the song " Hungry Heart" for The Ramones... but changed his mind after Jon Landau advised him to release it himself. Yes... i know about John Rossall's other records

Hey Glam Professors. Load of singles just came in and this was among them. It is a promo rather than the official release, so should be collectable in certain circles. Any info on the band greatly appreciated.

Merlin were quite prolific over a 3 year period. Quite a few singles and an album. The album has a couple of the singles on it. Demo of 'Wildcat' is worth between £8-10 i think.
They mostly went in for 'Soft Glam' rather than Stomping Crunchers! 'Wildcat' is pretty rockin' though innit
