I had the Pink Floyd - Animals on tape. Couldn't be much bothered with it today (or even then)

Sheep was definitely one of the best songs of 1977
In fact a few of the 'dinosaur' bands upped their game that year

I can't summon up any enthusiasm for any of those tunes Stu. Pleasant enough but too sophisticated for my simple tastes.

TG's "Second Annual Report" came out that year. That would be the one I would take to a desert album. Adore TG.

I like some TG I love the idea of them but not always the reality The United/Zyklon B Zombie single came out in 1978 and that one has always been a firm fave Plus who can't love a group who put an album called 20 Jazz Funk Greats and with a brilliant cover too I'm gonna set up a TG thread

Marquee Moon - Television My aim is true - Costello Stick to me - Graham Parker and the Rumour Bat out of hell - Meat Loaf Lust for life - Iggy LAMF - Heartbreakers Damned Damned Damned - Damned Plastic Letters - Blondie New Boots and Panties - Dury Running on empty - Jackson Browne American stars' n bars - Neil Young Foreign affairs - Tom Waits
Sorry...never really digged Never mind the bollocks or the first Clash album...Sex Pistols is a band I would rather read about than listen to...their history is fascinating and exciting "England's Dreaming" is a fantastic book) but their music I can do without

Eclectic selection Mark Totally baffled by your dismissal of The Clash and the Pistols I am a huge Clash fan but for some reason I never got into their debut album. To be honest I think I have listened more to Cut the crap over the years. I like a few Pistols songs, Stepping stone, Satellite, Anarchy, their cover of Substitute, Did you no wrong but I am not too keen on NMTB

The rest sounded v substandard but maybe there’s more there than I realise?

The rest sounded v substandard but maybe there’s more there than I realise? Born in 1968 I can't say "I was there" when it kicked off. Maybe you are right about the age thing. When I started buying records in about 82 Combat Rock was shit hot on the radio in Denmark (Rock the Casbah was played all the time). Combat Rock (which is by far the best they ever did in my opinion) was my introduction to the Clash and had to work my way backwards through their catalogue. When I finally got to their debut I had already heard London Calling, Rope (underrated album) and Combat Rock. I can understand the feeling of excitement if you were there in the middle of something great happening, but sadly I wasn't. When I got around to their debut album I had already heard so much other great stuff that it just sounded nothing out of the ordinary to me. As for Cut the crap...no there is not more than you realise..I just have a certain sentimental feeling towards that album but to be honest it is not very good. I saw the Clash play their second to last gig ever (I think) at Roskilde Festival in 1985 and they played some new songs which would end up on Cut the crap later in the year and they sounded great live..enter Bernard Rhodes as producer:-( This is how it should have been....if only they had kept it like this we would have had a very good album to listen to
