Lineup 1 - as Tiger Lily (1973 - October 1974):John Foxx (real name Dennis Leigh) - vocals Stevie Shears - guitar Chris Cross (real name Chris Allen) - bass, vocals Lineup 2 - as Tiger Lily (May - October 1974):John Foxx - vocals Stevie Shears - guitar Warren Cann - drums, vocals Chris Cross- bass, vocals Lineup 1 - as Tiger Lily and then Ultravox! (October 1974 - March 1978):John Foxx - vocals Stevie Shears - guitar Chris Cross - bass, vocals Warren Cann - drums, vocals Billy Currie - violin, keyboards Lineup 3 (March 1978 - March 1979):John Foxx - voice Chris Cross - bass, synthesiser, voice Warren Cann - drums, rhythm machine, voice Billy Currie - keyboards, violin Robin Simon - guitar, voice Currie, Cross and Cann then carried on as Ultravox with Midge Ure (ex-Slik, PVC2 and Rich Kids/Visage) on vocals and guitar. Tiger Lily appear to have a different sound, at least based on their one and only single... Tiger Lily - Ain't Misbehavin' (1975)Tiger Lily - Monkey Jive (1975)

The Tiger Lily single got pressed up. a couple of times over several years... it even ended up getting used in a European soft-porn film and issued in this cover. Needless to say, my friend Womblin' Tim Purr has a copy

ULTRAVOX! - LIVE AT THE RAINBOW 1977 (Record Store Day 2022) I waited till after the feeding frenzy of part one of Record Store Day to pick a copy of this record. A FANTASTIC recording of the original Ultravox! playing live at the Rainbow in London. There are a couple of songs on this record that they never recorded in the studio which makes it even more essential - I am assuming they were the support band that night because, (a) they were not a 'big' chart topping band at that time (b) they blitz through their set with all the relentless energy of the brudders ramone. Without Ultravox, i think there would have been no Magazine or Simple Minds. They were already Post-Punk before that had arrived.

...i have since been told, they were supporting Eddie & The Hot Rods that night, which seems logical as they were both on Island Records

The Rainbow album is truly magnificent and essential for all the Foxx era fans. TV Orphans would get a rewrite later as Fear In The Western World, which includes the original songs title in the lyrics. Someone correct me but I think the tune I Came Here To Meet You was from their old Tiger Lily days. I saw them mid 77 and they did play it but maybe it was a bit Hey, Hey! glammy as they had dropped it from their set in early 78.
All the songs from the Rainbow are on YouTube, great sound and footage.
