So, The Smiths?
What's yer verdict?
Obviously Morrissey is persona non grata these days but this little film from 1985 is a nice reminder of happier times as he is interviewed by the wonderful Margi Clarke complete with clips from Letter to Brezhnev...

Love em and don't mind Morrissey either. He can be a right wing dick but still pens a clever lyric. The Queen Is Dead, magnificent.

I had no idea you were such a fan I loved them back in the day and saw them many times Morrissey's solo career also has had many highpoints Shame he can't keep his increasingly outlandish opinions to himself

I like them and saw them a few times but don't listen to them much nowadays Is that because you've gone off them? Or some other reason? I rarely listen but whenever I do play them I am struck by just how good they still sound You know a group is genuinely special when even their B sides are exceptional Remember How Soon Is Now started life as a b side Other examples off the top of my head... Rubber Ring, Back To The Old House, Accept Yourself, I Keep Mine Hidden The Smiths - Rubber Ring

I was always firmly in the 'Smiths are ok until Morrissey opens his mouth' camp back in the day, even more so now, obvs.

One of the few bands I have a pathological dislike for. More of a cult than a band.

Also the archetypal Smith's fan doesn't help matters. I remember people supposedly killing themselves when they split. FFS, it was just a whiny beat combo, people need perspective. What was it Oasis said about not putting your life in the hands of a rock'n'roll band etc?

The Simpsons recent series have been treading water but the Morrissey mocking episode is spot on. Benedict Cumberbatch gets the voice perfectly. There is a marvellous pastiche song half way through.
Lyrics almost verbatim: Every morning I wake with a frown Fill my bath and hope I'll drown
