Here is an ACE Garage/Psych Nugget from 1966 that i first heard on the wonderful Mayhem & Psychosis compilations way back in the 80s
The Electras are clearly channeling 'Steppin Stone' here... but also influencing The Damned in their Phantasmagoria phase...

How much love is there for... The Shadows of Knight?
I'm a big fan of their blues infused take on psych
No surprise they hailed from Chicago
Probably best known for Gloria but their version of Oh Yeah is a winner too...

...love it LOADS, Nigey ...but probably not as much as Mr Bowie who lifted this arrangement of the song, pretty much 'Lockstock & Two Smoking Jean Genie Barrels'

Thanks Andy - thanks Zeo
Amazingly whilst I'd noticed the I'm a Man comparison I'd never twigged the wholesale copping of the Oh Yeah arrangement.
The I'm A Man similarities are even more similar on The Yardbirds versh...
The Yardbirds - I'm A Man
and maybe even on The Stooges versh....
The Stooges - I'm A Man
But hang on, did Bo D originally cop the riff from Muddy Waters?...
Muddy Waters - Hoochie Coochie Man
And back to Jean Genie, lest we forget at the same time, and with even more success chartwise, Chinnichap were using the same riff for Blockbuster...
Sweet - Blockbuster

...yes ...and with Jean Genie and Blockbuster out at the same time... it was a full on chart battle of the 'recomissioned old blues rifferama'
I heard the Shadows Of Knight song, way after Jean Genie, of course... but when i did, i thought hang on a mo... this is the same song, but with some well tasty extra Ronson licks!!
