Personally, I wouldn't freeze or starve for no one.

We had a discussion a while back and PU suggested various blankets which are working a treat for me
Also got one of those slanket things which is pretty toasty for working from home when I am in one place for hours
Lady E has got an electric blanket which only costs pennies per day and is very effective
Also was reading about gillets that run on batteries and keep your torso warm. May get one of them for next winter.
Just layer up and/or get into bed and/or do a few press ups, starjumps and/or dance
Not sure how it's going to work when the mercury dips below zero though next Winter
Botom line, heat the human not the home is my approach so far as we've not had the heating on for weeks now

I've also been conscious of the energy I use primarily because I don't believe in giving the greedy energy companies money for nothing.
We're out at work all day anyway so we don't use it much.
If I was really skint I'd use it and blow the consequences. At least you'd get a heat in the big hoose.
Have you seen those wee ecowarm heaters?
You can get them on ebay for 20 quid.
I think it was Emma Goldman who said that if you want to keep warm you should burn the rich.

Life is just getting unbearable for many people.
I think modern life is just so utterly fucking awful on a spiritual level that I feel I'd be better off dead. And money isn't even a serious problem for me thanks to my family. I've seen more than enough, my mind and body are past peak. I'm starting to feel that assisted suicide should be available to anyone who wants it.

There's no doubt about it.
21st Century life can be a drag with it's mobile phone culture and vacuous gullible associated zombies but life is what you make it.
A beautiful frosty morning like this morning will always be worth it alone.
I've had fallow periods financially in my life but not recently. I work for this NHS and unlike some I don't see it as a cash cow as I believe in it's ethos.
For me though a lot of people are just getting thicker.....and thicker...and thicker.
For example I had a patient last week who only got his date of birth right after 6 attempts. The most basic things just seem to escape a lot of people in the modern world.
Thatcherism X 10.

Even the worst off here have got it pretty cushy compared to folks in Ukraine, Yemen, etc. If they can summon up the will to survive, you can. Chin up

We're on your side Stu, sounds like your family are too.
Seek out the good stuff and avoid all of the bollocks.

Stu, you find so many amazing things which you share here and I really appreciate it
Life is hard but there also so much good stuff to enjoy too
Try to focus on that and - as dm says - avoid the bollocks
More music and less depressing news - sometines it's the only way to survive

If you want to be informed by a subject narrow it down to sources that you trust. A lot of people obsess about online news especially now with Covid and the Ukraine War to the degree it's being labelled as 'death scrolling. It's also a lot more natural to think about death as you get older but this can be a liberating experience too. Nature is a great redeemer. I personally love clouds and find their formations fascinating. Thats one example but there are loads. Focus on them as there's so much to appreciate.

I can't reiterate strongly enough what Rogue says about finding trustworthy news sources. So many are sensationalist at best, and fantasizing, speculative gloom and doom merchants at worst.
From experience I can say that these kind of sites (newspapers, social media etc) will cast a shadow over your days and nobody needs that shit.
My advice would be to get your news fix from a couple of the more reputable mainstream sites and maybe a local to your area news site if you can find a decent one.
Maybe even take the odd couple days off from reading the news, you'll find that you haven't missed much but will have gained yourself a few brighter, more care-free days.
Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Absolutely, I look at the mainstream news perhaps every 2 days to see what they're saying then read something else.
Usually a graphic novel or a music book.
I also do a diary which I find really enjoyable too. It's good to have a bit of time late at night to do this after your day.

Getting outside is good too
Especially if you can get to some green space
I’ve got a dog which forces me out two or three times a day
May not always feel like doing it but always glad I did when we get back

Yes, getting out into nature is also very enjoyable. I'm an avid walker. There's nothing better than going for a hike then going for your dinner and a pint after it.

Absolutely, I look at the mainstream news perhaps every 2 days to see what they're saying then read something else. I haven't watched the TV news for at least 15 years. I skim the Guardian website for 5 mins on weekday mornings and get the Observer on a Sunday. If I dwelt too much on the news it'd prolly get me down, too.
