Eventually got around to watching this so I thought I'd share a few thoughts.
Firstly, the target audience is obviously people outwith the 'punk generation' which is possibly an attempt to repopularise the Pistols story.
However, Danny Boyle is a populist and mainstream film director so I suppose this was the intention all along.
If you were a kid born in the 90's and/or in the 21st century, you possibly could enjoy this without ever really knowing who the Pistols were and what impact they made culturally.
However, seeing as I'm not and I really thought 'Lonely Boy' was the definitive book written by a Sex Pistol I'm not going to be sympathetic to this.
It comes across as the following:
-The Pistols story retold as if it existed in a parallel universe.
-William Burroughs re-wrote 'Lonely Boy' on glue in his famous 'cut-up' style.
-Steve Arrogant wrote the script and Wattie of the Exploited directed it.
Or even a mixture of all three.🤔
This is pretty poor but could have been a lot worse I suppose.
Cringeworthy in places too with their depiction of the Bromley Contingent and especially the scene with Rotten 'auditioning 'Eighteen' in the 'Sex' shop.
The bloke who played Rotten incidently started really getting on my tits after about 10 minutes. I'm sure it was Rami Malik with a ginger wig on.
Like a said previously, they should have went for an intelligent interpretation of 'Lonely Boy' over 3 hours rather than a Pistols biopic but obviously FX and Disney didn't give a Donald Duck about really protecting the Pistols legacy.
No Rating.

I think that's the thing - it's not a documentary, it's a drama, and so has to be taken on its own terms
Lots of flaws but, ulimately, I found it very enjoyable and not a bad effort by Danny Boyle and co, all things considered

'Control' is a much better attempt at a band drama. 'Pistol' is completely miscast too. Jones, McLaren, Matlock etc The guy who played Jones looked more like Jim Morrison. Completely unconvincing in every way.

What was the deal with Boyle and Glen?

I assume it's to do with his almost non existence in the show, made to look very poor, as is Paul Cook.

Aye, Cook and Matlock always get overlooked.
They didn't in Jones' book. Another reason why I thought 'Pistol' was rubbish. Cook was a cardboard cut-out character and Matlock looked too much like Pete Shelley.

The depiction of Glen is embarrassing.

Matlock just seemed to be there for the butt of Rotten's joke's.
I thought they part borrowed the narrative of 'The Filth and the Fury' on this.
Lazy writing.

^Couldn't agree more. Glen is typecast as a 'Beatles wimp' but from what I can gather he seemed to be into what the Pistols were doing and seemed unfazed by the stuff that apparently went on.
I mean Jimmy Rotten seemed the most uneasy of the Pistols during the Grundy interview for example.😄
