Got in after midnight and watched the last hour of McCartney's set. At eighty no wonder his voice has gone, the flanking guitarists trying to swell the vocal sound. The irony of Springsteen joining him on stage and singing Glory Days, a lyric of how boring it is to live in the past, seemed lost on social media pundits. Yeah, I caught the last hour too, his voice as you say has gone, but these sort of things are pretty much glorified singalongs than going to a real gig aren't they? Drum sound also sounded terrible to my ears, very dampened. I thought "Glory Days" was done on purpose for that reason and it's all just mutual back slapping with these guest spots anyway. Non music for a non music loving audience. (harsh I know, but there must be more worthy acts, rather than old men and women in love with themselves) Gotta say I enjoyed what little I saw of Macca - same applies to Diana Ross Absolute legends who can still deliver I didn't watch much of Glastonbury but flicked through a few performances on iPlayer and found plenty to enjoy and appreciate My 20 year daughter is having a brilliant time - the daily six hour shift flies by and then she's off out and about

There's a big difference.

"Can still deliver"? or just impress that they can still do an ok gig for an 80 year old man. There's a big difference. Probably a bit of both Sure Macca's voice is not what it was but that was an extraordinary set that was well delivered. He's not the most consummate showman around but he made a worthy headliner - as did Billie Eilish too I found Diana Ross pretty emotional. I really felt privileged to be able to still see such an icon run through another wonderful set. Of course it's easy to nitpick and embrace yer inner curmudgeon but really, why? Just enjoy it on its own terms - which applies to the whole event too. It's a great experience, both to attend and to watch on TV. No surprise it sells out in minutes. A few friends have been to most of the more recent ones and they all come back ful of it. People basically who are just like us e.g. old farts who still love music and communal gatherings.

^The vacuous soundtrack to accompany an overpriced artisan sourdough ciabatta with smashed avocado. Only the really "out there" average Glasto fan would be taking in Jack's set (and asking others if they knew he used to be in a band with someone who may have been his sister) I know, it's curmudgeonly, but I think it is also a fair point that the whole idea of what started out as meaningful and radical has become sanitised to the point of cloying middle class nausea. On site "glamping", Tory wives attending, flag waving, back slapping celebration of the freedom to feel a rebel as long as you can afford the £300 entry ticket into the stage managed, Harrods hippy wonderland. Just hope most of them managed to survive 3 days without The Guardian to tell them what to think.
