He's got a perfect right to be pissed off but it looks like Jones must have sold the rights to his book so doubt there's much he can do. Can't be worse than the Alex Cox one. can it? That was a shocker Danny Boyle has been responsible for some amazing work so I feel fairly optimistic about his chances of pulling this off

I won't be watching it.

Sky Arts broadcast this rather amusing short film of the Pistols battle of words with Grundy... and Steve Pemberton is rather good as the great man himself. Sure... the bit where the Pistols are rehearsing is a bit naff, but this is a jolly jape...

Interesting article Never Mind Sinatra, Mob Punks Really Dig the Sex Pistols I think Stu posted that one a while back - it is a goodie though and worth a post

Got to be worth a look especially with Danny Boyle at the helm.

Walk The Line Rocketman Great Balls of Fire Control 24 Hour Party People 24 hour party people worked as it was done tongue in cheek although I grant you Control was probably the best I've seen. They just never really feel like they were made by people who were there at the time or had any real love for the subject. They usually try and go all out on getting an accurate "method" style lead character and everyone else is a poorly written caricature (Rotten, in the Cox movie). Chuck in some random Americans to sell it to that market and a heavy dose of rewriting history to fit in with today's narratives which are too squeaky clean for the 70's and Bob's your badly acted bespiked Uncle from central casting. About as accurate as a Leicester Square postcard.

All good points Doug
I'm keeping an open mind for now though...
...if anyone can pull it off it's Danny Boyle

Can't be worse than the Alex Cox one. can it? I was an extra in that. I'm in the background wearing a 'gay cowboys' T-shirt in the scene where Sid hits Nick Kent with his bass. I was booked for several more days' filming but didn't turn up cos it was a travesty.

^The guy who played Scully being cast as Lydon was an utter farce.
Alex Cox has always been a helmet so we shouldn't be too surprised.

I believe there was an article about the upcoming Wally Nightingale book in a recent edition of Vive Le Rock.
They've done well to produce a book on someone who to be frank didn't do much.

What is there to write about?
I suppose it just adds to the industry that is the Sex Pistols.
For me Lonely Boy was a bit on a conclusion and people shouldn't really need anymore.
They're in danger of being remembered as a 'tragedy group' in the same way as say, the Carpenters.

I have read the feature about Wally. The premise of it is, that he was the one that got Steve and Paul to pick up instruments and learn from scratch how to be a band. He was already very competent on guitar and they learnt from him. he wrote the music for 'Did You No Wrong' ...and who knows, maybe other riffs/ideas that ended up as Pistols songs, but for along time was airbrushed out of the Pistols story and did not receive any royalties until WAY after the Pistols had split up. Ironically he died from a Heroin overdose just as the Pistols reformed in 1996. The only Pistol that supported there being a book written to set the record straight is Glen Matlock.
