Other than a couple of songs the music is awful and they looked dreadful.
The Pistols were the band that defined punk.

Plain wrong 1976!First band to wear biker jackets First band to wear drainpipes with rips First band to start songs on their album with 1234... First band to construct songs around 2/3 chords First punk album They were one of the original punk bands, if not THE original punk band To suggest otherwise is just wrong You may not like them or rate them but that's a different matter They were an inspiration to the UK punk scene and their Roundhouse show in July 76 was an important milestone - the Clash, the Sex Pistols and the Damned were all in the audience Read all about it here, plus some great photos... flashbak.com/the-ramones-play-the-sleaziest-garage-ever-the-roundhouse-london-july-4-1976-369223/

Marlon Brando wore a leather jacket.
Richard Hell wore ripped straightleg jean's as far back as 73.
Gene Vincent and Manfred Mann used countdown introductions before the Ramones.
The Stooges used 2/3 chord structures before the 70's even started! As did the MC5.
As for their gigs. Lydon subsequently claimed he didn't rate them. Jones and Cook certainly didn't copy them.
It's all revisionist mythology.
As for the music?Mid paced, samey droning with some of the worst vocals committed to vinyl.
The Pistols defined punk. Everyone knows this👍

If you read Jones' book, the early Pistols had bugger all to do with the Ramones and followed their own unique natural trajectory.
One band had nothing to do with the other.

Ifs, buts, maybes....
All I know is to suggest the Ramones were not a punk band (and a v influential one) is absurd

I personally don't consider them a punk band musically or attitude wise.
The music is mid paced rock music which jumped on the Iggy/garage rock band wagon.
The lyrics could have been written by a 3 year old.
In fact 'Communication Breakdown' by Led Zeppelin is more of a punk song than anything the Ramones ever did.
The Ramones back then probably didn't see themselves as a 'punk' band anyway.

The Clash after 79 is the most obvious one.
Adam and the Ants.

Ifs, buts, maybes.... All I know is to suggest the Ramones were not a punk band (and a v influential one) is absurd Actually amongst a lot of people who went to be major players in the American hardcore scene like Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins both cite the Damned and the Subs as a big influence on the hardcore sound. MacKaye also cited Wire. Jello mentions the Ramones but he said he got into punk after seeing the Pistols at Winterland. That's evident if you look at some of lyrical'sloganeering' of the DK's in the early days.
