Led Zep tribute on Saturday (Although the Ramonas are playing near the Moors on Friday I quite fancy that) Then Steve Ignorant a week on Friday. I've seen the Ramonas a few times Stu, they're definitely worth a look if you haven't seen them. Their own material is really good and their Ramones sets are a lot of fun. I've seen them two or three times. They're great.

The 5.6.7.8s + The Masonics
The 5.6.7.8’s hail from Tokyo, Japan and were formed in the early 1990’s. Stylistically, the band take their inspiration from Fifties & Sixties Rock ‘n’ Roll and have been compared to artists such as Link Wray, Dick Dale, The Sonics, Bo Diddley, The Trashmen, Chuck Berry, The Detroit Cobras and more.
They performed three songs in the 2003 Quentin Tarantino film ‘Kill Bill Vol. 1’ where they performed covers of The Rock-a-Teens song “Woo Hoo”, The Ikettes song “I’m Blue” and their own track “I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield”.
Yoshiko “Ronnie” Fujiyama – Vocals & Guitar Sachiko Fujii – Vocals & Drums Akiko Omo – Vocals & Bass
The Masonics feature Micky Hampshire (Thee Milkshakes), John Gibbs (Kaisers, Wildebeests) and Bruce Brand (Thee Mighty Caesars, Thee Headcoats, Holly Golightly, Thee Milkshakes, The Pop Rivets).
Their 1991 debut eponymously titled album on Hangman Records carried on the sound and the spirit of The Milkshakes. More albums have followed on Sympathy for the Record Industry, Vinyl Japan, Damaged Goods and Dirty Water Records.

It's Scotland Calling today and my first real gig in 3 years.
Looking forward to it. The doors open at 12 noon and some of my pal's already want the drinking to commence early doors but I'll be pacing myself.
As usual, the aesthetics of why I'm there are as interesting as the music and it's a good mix of early and new punk.
Highlights for me will be the Rezillos and the Cockney Rejects as I've never seen either.
And will Richard Jobson still attempt that ridiculous dance despite the fact that he's well into his 60's? If he does I'll buy him a pint of snakebite.

Mixed feelings about the Scotland Calling gig.
Is it really worth attending these events to see old people trying to recapture their youth?
There were so many people with sticks I thought I was in Sherwood Forest. Add that to a sprinkling of mobility scooters and even a few zimmers and I felt like running(yes one of the few who could probably still do so)to the Brazen Head(which I did).
As for the music?Firstly, there was a horrible 'uniformity of sound so all the bands had the same sterile 'big venue' racket blasting out the speakers.
No individuality or distinctiveness.
The Subs were the Subs. The ANWL were and are a dated joke and Steve Ignorant was just going through the motions with the exception of Carol Hodge who was brilliantly demonstrative.
As for the Rezillos? That unique sound of theirs was lost in the hollow sterility of 'the mix'.
And fresh from drinking safely in the cradle of British Unionism on the Paisley Rd in the arch loyalist watering hole 'The Union', the Cockney Rejects gave a bizarre performance of shadow boxing to a dull sound of 'pure punk rawk' with Stinky sounding as if he'd a quick blast of helium before going on stage.
Truely awful. As for the Skids? At this point myself and my pal's had adjourned back to the Brazen Head to get a decent pint.
The party's over folks👍

^ I've never been a fan of all-dayers and avoid them like the plague, it's a shame it didn't pan out as the line-up was mostly great. Did The Dickies or Subhumans play?

No, neither did.
Totally agree about all dayers, utter mince.
Thats the first time I've been to one of these 'Calling' gigs, won't be back.
I prefer the DIY gigs- much more memorable.
Rubbish sound, watered down piss for beer at rip off prices.
Weekend punk's wandering about looking as menacing as Compo from Last of the Summer Wine.
Why did I bother?!😐

Sounds pretty grim. You describe it very well and I can well imagine what it was like. It's a very good point you make about the sound at these places and the way so many old school acts have mutated into a generic rawk sound.
I'm much happier sticking to small venues, talking of which might get along to see Johnny Moped play an afternoon gig in a great pub today

I reckon the Rezillos would have done better in a smaller place where they could connect with the audience.
It was all so anonymous. Plus it had a lot if Oi types to see the Cockney Wankers but thankfully even they were too decrepit to get excited.
Only Steve Ignorant drew a younger crowd and it was mostly younger non punk women who got really into Carol Hodge's interpretation of those Crass songs.
She was the only one that really made a connection I reckon do well done Carol!👍

I find that with the 'bigger' bands at larger venues you tend to get wankers who are out on a pass, reliving the halcyon days when they bought (insert something 'Punk' from the charts here) by pogoing and crashing into people with their shirt off and their sweaty beer gut bouncing around - 'cos it's punk innit?

As I couldn't be arsed going to see Blondie and Johnny Marr at the Arena tonight it'll probably be Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets at Manchester Apollo on Friday. If not that it'll be Dead Kennedys the Wednesday after that.

If not that it'll be Dead Kennedys the Wednesday after that. I met a mate on Friday who say Blondie and Marr with his daughter earlier in the week and he was blown away by how good they both were. I trust his judgement & am sure it was a great experience
