^^ That review sums it up well. Despite the excellent period piece sets and trench horror scenes, it is a pretty formless film with no narrative and an assault on the senses, I didn't make it through the 150 minute run time. Remarque's original novel was more of a treatise on the futility of war and a call for pacifism, not something to be made into a movie.

Cabinet of Curiosities
Guillermo del Toro eight stand alone tales of horror. Managed the first two and though the guignol is there, the stories are incredibly weak making it all very disappointing. Not bothering with the remaining six. 3/10

Velvet Gold mine
Welcome rerun for this fictional tale of seventies glam rock. Fictional just as it's a thinly veiled portrayal of Bowie and Iggy. Praised and panned by critics in equal measure, I plump for the former. Despite not being able to use Bowie's music, songs by Roxy and Cockney Rebel segue well into the narrative. Odd that Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor go onto superstardom yet scene stealer Jonathan Rhys Meyers is not on anyone's radar anymore. Toni Collette as an Angie type and Eddie Izzard as a Tony De Fries also shine. 8/10

Synchronic
Clever sci fi/horror. Brain tumour patient (excellent portrayal by Anthony Mackie) investigates a designer drug whose hallucinations effects become reality.
8/10

Tried it, lavish photography but so slow and dull. Like the series Lost years ago, tries to be intriguing but ultimately boring. On the other hand Wednesday is a good knockabout horror comedy. Not for kids!

Troll
Norwegian Monster mash up. So instead of Tokyo and a rampaging Godzilla, it's Oslo and a 50 metre tall rock type creature. Enjoyable take your brain out stuff, ticks all the previous Kaiju tropes.
6/10

Knives Out, Glass Onion
Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc in a whodunnit on a remote island. Though not as multi layered as the debut, this is funnier and more satirically biting as the suspects are thinly veiled Musk, Zuckerberg and internet influencer air heads characters. Relative unknown Janelle Monae steals the show as the mysterious Andi. 9/10

The plot might be a tad absurd but it romps along in a most diverting way 8/10

www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/crime-scene-the-texas-killing-fields-release-date-cast-newsTexas Killing Fields From the 1970s into the 1990s, around 35 slain women were found among a 25-acre stretch of land between Houston and Galveston in what became known as the Texas Killing Fields. The search for culprits spanned decades — and eventually revealed that two serial killers had allegedly committed the crimes independently of each other. The true-crime limited series Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields reveals how the suspected killers evaded capture for years and tells the stories of the many victims whose lives they cut short. Viewers take heed, as this series contains disturbing descriptions of sexual violence.I'm surprised no one's ever done a series on the Houston murders of the early 70s committed by someone called Dean Corll, who is possibly the worst serial killer I've ever heard of. Not in terms of body count but in terms of torturing his young victims.
