Another example of punk's Glam roots...
Slaughter & The Dogs originally formed when Wayne Barrett (vocals) and drummer, Brian (Mad Muffett) Grantham, got together with bassist Howard 'Zip' Bates joined them in late 1975
Mick Rossi became the sole guitarist when Mike Day left. Wayne thought up the name for the band whilst lying in bed prior to their first gig.... a mixture of Diamond Dogs by Bowie and Slaughter on 5th Avenue By Mick Ronson...hence Slaughter And The Dogs!
They did the usual rounds in local clubs and working men's clubs doing covers of Lou Reed, Bowie and started writing their own numbers
After seeing The Pistols they knew which way the wind was blowing and the rest is history
What's yer verdict?
How about this latterday Slaughter classic...?
Slaughter and the dogs .. Hell in New York

Incendiary band live and first album a punk classic. Wasn't too taken with the band after Barrett left, Bite Back album is a real plodder apart from the track above posted.
Remember seeing them at the Retford Porterhouse. Packed to the rafters and at the back of the stage was this gigantic mirror that ran the width and height of the performance area. The condensation of all the sweating punters was collecting on the glass and causing little pools of water and the roadies had to put the backline amps and cabs on beer crates and string the cabling off the floor.

Thanks PU. I wish I'd seen them live - sadly it was not to be
You're not the first to describe them live in glowing terms

I didn't get to see SATD till Wayne & Mick got back together to play the Blackpool Punk Fest in 1996... seen them a couple of times since then. There have been 4 studio albums released under that full name... the last three, since reforming. Sadly Wayne & Mick and currently in the midst of a nasty and very public legal battle over the use of the name... i doubt they will ever work together again.
As already mentioned here, they were massive Glam Rock fans, disciples of Bowie, Mick Ronson and the N.Y. Dolls... but that's no crime... so were alot of other early Punk bands.
I like 'Bite Back' myself, this is a CRACKER...

Are there two version of the group now? They played near me last year (or maybe 2018) and I assumed it was both Wayne & Mick

...they toured together in 2017 to promote an album they recorded in L.A. where Mick now lives, called "Vicious" A good album, well worth checking out.
But yeah... beyond that... it's turned into something akin to a Greek Tragedy

Might just be gossip but another promoter once remarked that Barrett now owns the name. Some time back Crucial Talent agency were touting a band called just Slaughter, think it might have been Eddie Garrity and Zip Bates. Don't think they got many takers.

Interesting PU - thanks
The "official' SATD website...
...still states Welcome to the Official Website of Slaughter And The Dogs. Endorsed by Wayne Barrett & Mick Rossi, the new website will keep you updated with band news and live dates
The website links (e.g. Instagram and Twitter) all go to what look like Mick Rossi fronted accounts...

...it's turned into something akin to a Greek Tragedy Too right Andy - very very sad The Facebook page seems to be run by Wayne There's a link to a fundraiser... Help Wayne Barrett Save Slaughter and the Dogs As a lot of people know, Wayne has been fighting TWO legal trademark property cases in the United States and the United Kingdom since February. This has generated a lot of legal bills for us, and with the COVID-19 pandemic, Wayne, who works in the music and concert hall industry, has been out of work since March when the lockdown on all live music began and also has been unable to tour.
Rest here... Only raised $60 so far out of a target of $4000 though

Seriously, in these incredible uncertain times, he wants people to contribute to save an almost forgotten moniker and where the money will end up in the grubby hands of solicitors.
If I didn't admire his past glories, I'd call him a fucking idiot.

They have toured America and Japan since being active again, so a bigger band than you might think ...but yeah, it's all a bit sad what has been going down over the last year.
To quote the intro of "We Don't Care" from the first album... "We consist of FOUR people"

Yep, the campaign symbolises the triumph of optimism over reality but, as Andy says, they are sufficiently popular for it to feel worthwhile. The only winners in these disputes are the lawyers though

Rossi was in the top tier of the original punk rock guitar players. Like Derwood out of Gen X he was heavily influenced by Ronson.
