Hucknall Miners Welfare! Do you know what year? My Uncle worked at Hucknall Colliery and I'd often get dragged there as a nipper on a Saturday night to watch some dreadful frilly shirted showband murdering current chart hits. Massive venue and stage from what I can remember Always a fight in the car park at closing as well.

I think Noddy said it was 1980 on the Rockonteurs podcast
Apparently they'd regularly play there to road test new songs and as a warm up gig before a tour

I remember being quite disappointed by Everyday when it came out
My 12 year old self was unprepared for the softer side of Slade
After a while it grew on me but I never really loved it like I'd done their previous singles

Now you're all going to tell me that you all knew Dave Hill wore a wig even in the seventies. That's another part of my childhood ruined.

According to a Slade fan forum, the wig comes in 1974 for the Slade in Flame movie. Steve Hoffman site goes into greater detail. Below:
"The subject was discussed on the former Slade forum which included a pro- hairdresser so to set the record straight: - Dave used to have great hair , all his, up to 22 years of age - 1969 receding hairline over forehead started so he cut them short "hoping they grow back thicker" ( his own quote) - Beginnings front cover. - it did not happen so with all the rest still strong and thick enough he developed this "Cleopatra style" - the combover #1 which looked quite good and original late 1971 - In 1972 he gradualy shortens the fringe and the length - it still looks good - combover #2 Late 1972 he keeps his hair longer with shorter fringe but with glitter on the forehead. - 1973 March he has his hair longest ever with short fringe and glittered forehead (watch the start of Slade live Voorburg 1973 Dutch TV show on YouTube) the glitter appears also in his hair- combover #3 - 1974 - the problems with the fringe started it looked thinner and quite a mess at the end of the live shows , also in the studio shots - OLD NEW..., STOMP YOUR HANDS ... covers - final combover #4. - late 1974 to early american 1975 shows he keeps his Flame wig firmly woven - 1976 is a good hair year with all his hair quite long and a toupee on top - looks very good and natural- Nobodys Fools back cover for a reference. - 1977 - gets his hair cut short by his hairdresser wife which is secret revealed a bit later and puts a weirdest wig on imaginable ( very thick with very short fringe) and uses this image for atrocious promo pics in Birmingham as well in some early scandinavian gigs and TOTPs and Whatever Happened To Slade album cover. Late april he throws the wig away shaves his head and looks cool! - late 1978 he lets it gradualy grow back the receding hairline is visible but he makes no fuss about it - sometimes he puts the scarf on his head. - 1979 - its combover #5 but this time its from side to side not back to front - 1980 - he lets it grow and by Reading 80 they are really long , the combover does its job but only for a little more than half of the set , than it melts so the hat is the solution He cuts them shorter again late 1980 and looks very good for the Slade Smashes compilation 1981 till today is more or less the same the combover #5 is still there but thinner and thinner and various hats still intact. Having said all that looking at his latest photos he really looks very good for 75 year old. Hope it sums up for ya......"
