I've only just discovered that Don and Dave have split It happened back in Feb 2020 I've got to say I'm reeling Slade have split after 53 years together.
The news of Dave Hill's Slade going their separate ways was shared by drummer Don Powell on his personal website on Monday.
The drummer claims that he found out from guitarist Dave Hill - the only other original member of the band, who he has been pals with since the 60s - that he was axed via a "cold email."
A statement on Powell’s website said: "It is with great sadness and regret that Don needs to inform his fans that he now is no longer a member of Dave Hill’s Slade.
"Dave has sent Don a cold email to inform him that his services are no longer required, after working together and being friends since 1963."Incredible www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/slade-split-after-53-years-21432824The big issue with Slade, and a lot of successful groups, is that the ones that get the publishing are pretty much set for life. Noddy and Jim each receive a huge cheque each in January from the annual sales of Merry Xmas Everybody. Poor old Don and Dave have to continue schlepping around playing gigs to make ends meet. The thought of having to tour, especially their kind of touring which is probably quite basic, as old men in their 70s is horrendous Hard to imagine that now having two versions: Don Powell's Slade Davd Hill's Slade is going to make it any easier for either of them And Don sacked by email by Dave! What a rotter! The way people treat people they've known all their lives never ceases to astonish me. If you can't trust them who can you trust ?

Interview with Dave in today's Guardian
Slade guitarist Dave Hill: ‘I’d come out of work, put on my costume and suddenly I’d be Superman!’
Half a century after his first hit single, Hill has survived a stroke, depression and the departure of all three of his former bandmates. The glam rock ‘yob’ relives the days of glittering faces, mighty stacks and timeless anthems

Has there ever been a better rock and roll film that "Flame"? Gritty as hell and some fantastic tunes. Actually the album is my favourite of theirs. Also have the two David Essex ones "Day" and "Stardust" that are capable runners up. Wish there was more archival full gig footage around, not even all that many decent bootlegs that I have been able to fins. Sets tend to be about 10 songs long always starting with "Them Monkeys".

Yeah... considering the target audience of those 3 films was raving frecklefaced teenieboppers, they are all remarkably adult and downbeat in their content.
Slade were already in decline in popularity when Slade In Flame was released, (RollerMania was just around the corner) but that now stands up well as a fine piece of work.

Had the potential to be a great rock outfit and Mick Tucker was an astonishingly good drummer. I still give the "Desolation Boulevard" vinyl a spin occasionally.

A lot of love for Sweet round these parts. There’s a thread here... talkpunk.freeforums.net/thread/421/sweet
