^^ Got to be one of the greatest intros ever. Again not a massive fan, love Rattus but No More Heroes pushed the shock value too much. Never got La Folie at all. One of those right time, right place maybe?

I recently re-read David Buckleys excellent book on The Stranglers "No Mercy" and that made me go back and listen to the many albums i have. For me, the first eight studio albums are all well worth hearing... beyond that the cracks were starting to show. For a longtime it looked like they could not survive without Hugh, but this is a strong 'post Hugh' album...

I've got the first two LPs and a compilation which is probably all I need but, Andy, your post makes me wonder if I should delve a bit deeper
I saw them play 2-3 years ago with Ruts DC supporting (which tipped the balance in terms of getting a ticket) and I enjoyed their set

...the further you delve, the more you realise how great they are/were ...WAY beyond their 'Punk Era' albums.
Randomly... here is a cracking song from what is sometimes considered one of their weaker 'Hugh' albums...

The Stranglers have enjoyed a longevity in their popularity because their sound developed. The last time i saw them, it really hit me just how many great songs they have in their extensive cannon.
This is just a PERFECT pop record...

First two albums and their early singles for me.From what i’ve heard of their later stuff(and I haven’t heard that much) they seem to have lost the energy they used to have.Bit too laid back for my taste.

I'd never heard that one but it is a goodie - if it wasn't Hugh singing I would never have pegged it as a Stranglers song The Stranglers have enjoyed a longevity in their popularity because their sound developed. The last time i saw them, it really hit me just how many great songs they have in their extensive cannon. This is just a PERFECT pop record... Skin Deep is indeed a great song

...i think "Feline" and "Aural Sculpture" were their best records with Hugh, when they exploring softer more cinematic sounds and using acoustic guitars. This is sublime and haunting to listen to late at night...

They were really on the ball up until The Raven but I lost interest with the pop stuff at the time.
Mind you I'm not as indifferent to it now as I was then.

'Walk on By' is absolutely sensational.
One of the best covers by any band. It also highlights that they were never really the same band after Hugh left regardless of the hype of the new singer.
Also with Dave Greenfield's death it proves that everything passes on. Sometimes it's best to leave it like that.😢
