Someone I know about half our age went to a gig a while ago and Nick Cash was doing his solo stuff this is what he wrote....and I can easily believe it!
It was awesome to play the 100 Club again in London. Really means a lot but............
There was something that really pissed me off and I’m only writing this because I just remembered and I had to type it out. After we played the act on next was a solo set by the singer of a well known punk band. And he was fucking terrible. Probably the worst I’ve ever seen anyone perform
He was strutting over the stage like he’d just learnt how to walk, shouting I’m an original punk from 77!!! Alienating half the crowd.
There was literally no talent hardly even getting notes out of the guitar. Pissed the sound man off even before he started.
It shows the rest of his actual band are the live talent and it’s been carrying him for 40 years. Don’t do solo sets if you’re shit. You’re just taking the piss out of newer bands with talent who could use that slot for exposure and not for you to grab a couple hundred quid from.
Shit thing is. Crowd loved it. Cheering and singing along to what I can only describe as a few screeches resembling songs.

Your pal paints a fairly unpleasant picture
Andy Lone Shark is TP's 999 correspondent who would be able to offer an insight into whether this was an off night or not
I saw 999 about a year ago and really enjoyed their set
They've got so many great tunes in their back catalogue that it's pretty much wall to wall classics

Having gone from being a fan in my late teens, that only had the records to listen to, to getting to see them play live regularly in the early 80s onwards... to actually playing gigs with them in the last decade or so and also getting to know them as people I have seen them at their best and their worst.
That mini-review from the 100 Club doesn't really surprise me. As much as i love the band, i know Nick can be a bit of a knob When you've been out there performing for as long as he has, sometimes these people lose the plot. But they just played a very successful American tour, and i have only heard good things about how the gigs went. They have a new studio album out later this year on the American label Cleopatra.
P.S. Checkout an ACE comp of their later recordings called The Sharpest Cuts (tracks taken from the albums "You Us it!" and "Death In Soho" and you will realise they have written great songs beyond the era they are best known for.

That compilation was put together by Joey Kelly from L.A. band Mad Parade (i am a big fan of them too), who toured with 999 the last time they were in the States By ACE... i meant great by the way - link to Joey's record label is here... www.madparade.biz/The songs he chose have been all been remixed. back in the summer Arturo Bassick asked me to design their US Tour shirt... pleased to say, they sold like 'Hot Cakes'

Thanks - Apparently, they sold so well, they ran out with 3 shows still to play. In the end, there were 3 different print variations.

...Well, i designed the shirts, mostly as a favour to Arturo. The idea was he was going to bring me back 4 shirts from America and post them to me in the UK as 'payment' for the work.
It all gets a bit convoluted after that - Arturo sent me 2 shirts - also later, sent me The Sharpest Cuts album for only £10. The bloke printing the shirts messed me about though... in the end i paid postage from the USA and print for 4 more shirts
