As I was listening to The Undertones debut at max volume it got me wondering about which punk groups were also perfect pop groups?
Those who were undeniably punk but also gave the world some perfect pop songs
The ones that came to my mind were...
Ramones
Buzzcocks
The Undertones
Protex
The Boys
Blondie
Rudi
Who have I left out?
Doesn't have to be first wave punk

I'm going add to this list, one band at a time.
THE DICKIES - A band best known to grumpy old gits as a kiddie punk band that cranked out 300mph cover versions. But in reality, one of the finest Pop Punk bands ever...

Thanks jsm and thanks Andy Got to admit I am one of those who would instinctively disparage The Dickies although I do remember you recommending them before. I'll investigate more diligently this time It's also time for a dedicated Dickies thread - and here it is.... talkpunk.freeforums.net/thread/438/dickies

IMHO, the Buzzcocks and the Undertones are peerless as pop-punk perfection.
Some other very worthy contenders have been mentioned in this thread but most of them take us into to tedious "punk or not ?" debate, which I don't propose to ignite.
I'm so glad to see that nobody has mentioned any of the so-called "pop punk" bands from America which emerged like a nasty dose of STD since the turn of the century.

IMHO, the Buzzcocks and the Undertones are peerless as pop-punk perfection. Most right thinking people would have Buzzcocks and/or The Undertones as number one (and number two) in a chart of punky pop perfection

...i've seen The Queers and Sloppy Seconds on tours of the UK, and have a batch of albums by both.
I don't like everything i've heard by The Queers, but this album has some great songs, with a nod to the Beach Boys on it...
This classic song by Sloppy Seconds always pops into m'head everytime i hear an Ice Cream van go by...

THE DESCENDENTS are easily one of the most influential Pop Punk bands of the last 40 years. When it comes to the American slant on the genre, they practically patented it. Here’s three examples of melodic perfection…
