Thinking of the US election and how relevant this great song is.
No doubt about it but the DK's were the best punk band America has ever produced.

Boat Club, Nottingham 1980. Though it is a bit of a blur now it was the first time I ever saw stage diving. All here in its audible glory:

Yes they have been on my mind alot too, for me... the most important and the best US Punk band too. The first two DK's singles are the equal of anything that came from the first wave of UK Punk, and the first three albums and the In God We Trust 12" are mandatory. Also unlike any of the first wave bands, they are actually put something back by starting their own label and supporting other artists.
FrankenChrist is the album that often gets over looked but has many of their greatest songs... Jello at his lyrical best and East Bay Ray's fantastic Gothic Surf guitar

It’s a shame they rinsed Mr. Biafra in the end.

...yes, to be honest, i don't know who to believe regarding them taking him to court.
All rather sad... but i think it speaks volumes that they are still milking the back catalogue, with no new songs for over 15 years since they 'reformed' Jello on the other hand has released a TON of new material.

Jello's spoken word albums are excellent. Neither the American left or right are spared his ire and dark humour. Even though some of the people mentioned and subject matter are history, still worth a listen.

...the recordings of when he talks about when he got taken to court by Tipper Gore and the PMRC is hilarious... Jello does like the sound of his own voice a bit too much sometimes, but he is very witty and unlike Lydon, actually knows what he's talking about in great detail.

Jello at his lyrical best and East Bay Ray's fantastic Gothic Surf guitar 'Frankenchrist' was the DK's opus magnum. Everything that was wrong(and continues to be wrong)with the US is encapsulated in that record. From the cover to the poster to the music to the lyrical insight. Utterly, utterly memorable and one of the most important punk records ever released. Vital.

...That's an early studio version. Not only are the lyrics different, the structure of the song is too. Geza X did a brilliant job recording the single... i think he should have recorded the first album too.

...Jello's record collection is the stuff of legend. As you can see... he likes to collect some stuff, because it's so ridiculous, e.g. Heino records. I have this compilation that includes Jello's first faltering steps into the world of recording before he moved to San Francisco... and the rest is history. Some great Denver bands i've never heard of before on here.
