Just started Lupin So far it's very entertaining Lupin is a French mystery thriller streaming television series created by George Kay and François Uzan that premiered on Netflix on 8 January 2021. The series consists of 10 episodes, released in two parts.
The show stars Omar Sy in the role of Assane Diop, a man who is inspired by the adventures of master thief Arsène Lupin, a character created by Maurice Leblanc in the early 1900s. The first part, consisting of five episodes, is subtitled Dans L'Ombre D'Arsène (In the Shadow of Arsène), referring to the primary character's inspiration.
The second set of five episodes, already filmed by the end of 2020, is slated to be released in mid-2021. Finished Lupin now. It's pretty slight but entertaining and pacey too It's a French thriller about a modern day gentleman thief, Assane Diop Omar Sy has real charisma in the role of Assane, whose thieving (inspired by the Arsene Lupin books) is all about getting revenge on a corrupt tycoon who framed Assane’s father

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Di Caprio and Pitt excel as fading star and his stunt double in 69 Tinsel Town. Tarantino nails the transition from square jawed heroes to the hippy takeover. Sharon Tate, Polanski, Manson, Mama Cass are in there. Plus a soundtrack to die for.
10/10

The Accountant
Ben Affleck stars as the autistic eponymous hero brought into investigate corporate crookery but he's far more than just your average bean counter. Good solid action thriller with some nice twists. 7/10

Yes. Very enjoyable and compelling If you like that sort of thing - drug cartels, smuggling, corruption, violence etc

I find the Mexico drug war very interesting.
The police corruption and the extreme violence makes it quite fascinating to me.

Couldn't agree more Really loved it Got to say I thought the ending was genius. I had a mounting sense of dread as the conclusion approached. I'll probably rewatch it in a few weeks.

Da 5 Bloods Very timely Spike Lee movie considering how the US finds itself at this moment in time. Four middle aged black former GIs return to modern day Vietnam for closure and buried treasure. Excellent juxtaposition flashbacks and soundtrack. Willy Lindo excels as confused, embittered ex grunt. After loving Once Upon A Time In Hollywood I decided to give Da 5 Bloods a go Big Spike Lee fan but this all felt unconvincing and a bit incoherent Gave up after 30 mins and just skimmed through the rest of it to see how it turned out. Definitely one to avoid. After abandoning Spike, I tried a 2017 Ben Wheatley film called Free Fire (on Prime). It rips off Reservoir Dogs and is an unapologetic violent shoot em up fest. Great cast and v enjoyable on its own terms. Disengage brain and just enjoy its consciously B movie schtick and I reckon you’ll be glad you did. One upside of being in self-isolation is that I get to catch up with a few film I don't usually have time for.

Good solid action thriller with some nice twists. 7/10 For the first two thirds I really enjoyed The Accountant but it really jumps the shark in the final third. Enjoyable enough but too many extraneous details, twists and revelations in the last act. Shame. 6/10

6 Days
Dramatic account of the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege. Comes over as a made for TV movie and even Mark Strong and Jamie Bell can't save it from mediocrity. The real BBC TV reports that intersperse the narrative are of a different media age. 5/10

The Devil All the Time (2020) dir by Antonio Campos (Film - Netflix) Terrifically dark, gripping, genre-bending slice of Southern Gothic with a stellar cast set in the postwar American Bible belt. It’s a brooding stew of twisted faith and postwar trauma complete with hillbillies, serial killers, fanatical fornicating evangelical preachers, sacrifices and tortuous family legacies. Immersive. 9/10
