Punk In London
Wolfgang Blud's seminal doc on 1977. Not seen this for years, get the feeling that the sound and film has been touched up a little. Using the close captioned subtitle facility you can get a translation of Blud's commentary. Excellent apart from Pursey baring his arse.

Anyone seen Midnight Mass? (Horror miniseries) First episode only. Slow and the Sheriff's religion is at odds with the rest of the island, a bit too implausible. Might go back to it.

Red Notice
Netflix's most expensive venture to date and it's all a bit flat. Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds as cop and art thief respectively go after super crook. Over the top stunts and FX but cliched. 5/10

Hellbound
Another South Korean series. Detective investigates a Cult who claim a series of public murders are God's punishment of the wicked. Episode 1 was very promising.

Three episodes in and Hellbound is very good indeed. The only relation it has to Squid Game is that they're both South Korean and HB is a completely different beast. Directed by the creator of Train To Busan which may whet your appetite to give it a go.

I'm ruminating on how East Asia Cinema can produce something as edgy as this and Squid Game yet the West is constantly coming out with predictable, linear, sanitised fare. Compare and contrast Battle Royale and The Hunger Games for example.

Watched the first episode Filed under promising I'm ruminating on how East Asia Cinema can produce something as edgy as this and Squid Game yet the West is constantly coming out with predictable, linear, sanitised fare. Compare and contrast Battle Royale and The Hunger Games for example. True enough - but that's mainstream Hollywood There's plenty of more extreme stuff going on in the fringes and in other countries
