Think We've been there before with Crass and Conflict, were you paying attention? Evidently not I found the relevant posts on the Crass thread... Do you think my statement is correct Zeo? Was it the bulk of their followers? Or just a few? Yes... dunno about the 'bulk' but I knew a lot of Crass followers who went veggie, it was part of the package. PLUS....Conflict were the major animal rights punk band. PLUS Know nothing about Conflict. In the interests of research I checked out To A Nation Of Animal Lovers (EP) Couldn't make a word of the lyrics - which is a shame, coz I imagine that's the point Second track is a bit easier to follow Third track is even easier I really like that third track - "Meat Still Means Murder" - though not sure it needs to be 10 minutes long
Interesting Zeo says I knew a lot of Crass followers who went veggie, it was part of the package.
Your experience was different then Rogue?
Shame old Blitzy Bob isn't around, he knows a lot about the London anarcho scene. He's vegan and I'm pretty sure he's mentioned it was universal in the London anarcho squatting scene of the early 80s. Bob could confirm. I'll ask him next time we're in contact

Zeo says I knew a lot of Crass followers who went veggie, it was part of the package. I sure did, and they didn't half bang on about it and pass judgement on those who didn't conform. Within a few of years a lot of them were back on the meat. lol @ Conflict, 'Stars in Their Eyes' karaoke Crass, utterly pathetic.

Well, I lived in Brougham Rd in East London during the 80's and there were lots of anarcho squatters there and to be honest it doesn't really bother me as I've never liked animal rights zealots. I don't really get where you're coming from. If you like Crass or whomever fine but I don't believe in doctrinaire politics. If you stayed in Brougham Rd you would know that there was a broad range of people who lived there, some punks and some not. And yes, I don't eat meat but who cares?

I care. Good on you rogue.
I'm passionate about animal rights without, I hope, being a zealot or constantly banging on about it

I hate fox hunting with a passion and any cruelty to animals but animal rights is a single issue and contains lots of different types including right wingers.
However, the punk influence gave it a huge shot in the arm.

Sadly not an issue that gets anything like the focus it deserves.
The meat and dairy industry are massive contributors to global warming.
Recent pandemics can all be laid at the door of farming.
And, of course, the horror and cruelty that is a feature of meat and dairy production would turn anyone with a shred of empathy away from consuming those foods.
That it's also the healthiest diet (when it is mainly plants a person eats) often also gets lost in the noise and obfuscation from those with vested interests.

I personally have no problem with carnivores as some of them are the nicest people I know who also, incidently, eat and enjoy meat.
In fact, some of them would say that the sole reason animals are here is to be eaten.
I've also spoken to people who are pro vivisection who say that animal activists who are against vivisection should volunteer their services instead if they don't want animals to be tested on.
Hard to argue with when you meet some of these nutty zealots.

So what if I killed an animal and eat it myself?

You said above you're a non-meat eater - something I respect you for - so presumably you'd never do that

I wouldn't.
Say someone else did.

Even if it was to feed their families?

If they were all starving, and it was the only food available, then my sadness would be as much about their predicament, as the death of the dog or the cat or whatever.

What about indigenous people who can't shop at a hipster vegan whole food shop?
