Said this in the old site but Siouxsie influence cannot be underestimated. Has anyone read Jordan's book incidentally? Yes. Me. I'll create a separate post

My Banshee worship began to falter beyond 1982 and the "A Kiss In The Dreamhouse" album. But liked the odd single - just lately i have started to appreciate the albums they made in the mid 80s, more though.

At the time i has albums like: "Hyaena" and the live album "Nocturne" on tape, borrowing the vinyl from friends.
I now have "Hyaena" "Tinderbox" & "Peepshow" on the original vinyl. I am not a Banshees 'completist' but acknowledge, their later albums had some great songs on them.

I remember going to the WOMAD Festival when it was hosted not far from Bristol in 1986. I went with a gang of friends from Bristol for the weekend. The Banshees were one of the main acts that year.
A girl we knew was working the backstage bar that year and she told us how they behaved like a bunch of spoilt children, amongst other things, complaining that the carpet didn't meet the walls of their tent... in a f**king field!! What a bunch of wankers we all thought, at the time... but HEY! "Time can be a healer"
This is a great song from "Peepshow"

I've heard from other sources that they were an obnoxious group on the road A life long roadie sited them as the worst group he'd ever worked with

...That doesn't surprise me. They do say "Don't meet your heroes"
Budgie always seems remarkably grounded though.

Too true. But who knows? It's only hearsay and we all have bad moods and bad days, so important not to see things as not necessarily just one thing or the other. I would not be surprised to learn that the reality is far more nuanced. Plus, of course, life on the road does tend to encourage bad behaviour and people's worst traits to come to the fore.
I heard recently Mrs Bono insists that, after a tour, Bono goes to stay in a local hotel for a few days before he comes home as she thinks he needs that decompression time before he can behave like a normal human being. It must be very weird having to adjust from playing to thousands, and having everthing done for you, to doing the washing up and making small talk about domestic stuff.

One of the best shows I've seen was The Banshees at Southampton Top Rank on the 'Join hands' tour shortly after Morris and Mckay bailed. Robert Smith played the opening set with The Cure, changed his shirt and came back on with the Banshees. He was still a teenager at the time IIRC. We were all blown away by Budgie, too.

I saw three shows on that tour, Hemel Hempstead, Leicester and my hometown Nottingham. Budgie and Smith were perfect at every one. Siouxsie made some comment along the lines of 'we're not missing the other two'.

^^ Smith filled in with consummate professionalism but McGeoch completed the classic line up
