Inspired by PU and Andy I'm going to listen to every album in the discography... 1978 - The Scream
1979 - Join Hands 1980 - Kaleidoscope 1981 - Juju 1982 - A Kiss in the Dreamhouse 1983 - Nocturne 1984 - Hyæna 1986 - Tinderbox 1987 - Through the Looking Glass
1988 Peepshow 1991 - Superstition 1995 - The Rapture 2003 - The Seven Year Itch For those that know, how you force rank them - one to 12 And am I the only one who was a bit disappointed by Join Hands after the stellar debut?

Because I saw three gigs on that tour Join Hands has a special place in my heart. That aside, Lords Prayer is a bit self indulgent and you could have replaced it with a couple of other tracks. However, Icon is on there and if I was pushed, it is probably my favourite Banshees track ever.

Yes, a great end to a great album. It's interesting that even at that early stage the Banshees were clearly influenced by progressive rock – given its length, tempo changes and highly literate lyrics, what else could one call "Switch"? In my limited knowledge of prog rock would Golden Earrings album 'Switch" have anything to do with...well whatever..lol

At the time i has albums like: "Hyaena" and the live album "Nocturne" on tape, borrowing the vinyl from friends. I now have "Hyaena" "Tinderbox" & "Peepshow" on the original vinyl. I am not a Banshees 'completist' but acknowledge, their later albums had some great songs on them. 'Nocturne' is a great album Never saw the Banshees but it sounds great. Siouxsie always did her own thing musically which I always found captivating.

Too true. But who knows? It's only hearsay and we all have bad moods and bad days, so important not to see things as not necessarily just one thing or the other. I would not be surprised to learn that the reality is far more nuanced. Plus, of course, life on the road does tend to encourage bad behaviour and people's worst traits to come to the fore. I heard recently Mrs Bono insists that, after a tour, Bono goes to stay in a local hotel for a few days before he comes home as she thinks he needs that decompression time before he can behave like a normal human being. It must be very weird having to adjust from playing to thousands, and having everthing done for you, to doing the washing up and making small talk about domestic stuff. He sounds like a cunt.

A lot of lead singers are, especially those in globally successful groups.

Looking forward to it

I don't have all the Banshees studio albums... not yet anyway. But if i had to put them into some kind of Top 5 It would be:
01 - The Scream 02 - Juju 03 - Kaleidoscope 04 - Join Hands 05 - A Kiss in the Dreamhouse

I suspect it could emerge as a strong album after a few more plays

...yes i am definatley warming to their post 'A Kiss in the Dreamhouse' albums.
I remember hearing tracks like "Candyman" and thinking it was great, but not buying the records at the time. I guess my muse was elsewhere.

...i have dipped into this interview. Haven't had time to watch it 'complete' - Kenny had a unique approach to drumming, amazing. Glad to hear that he and Siouxsie are friends again. The book he's working on sounds good too.

They really could take another song and put their stamp on it, they own Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence. Looking Glass follows that vein.
The two singles Passenger and Wheels On Fire are the standout standard tracks. Siouxsie's reading of Strange Fruit is a curio, if you haven't heard Billie Holiday's original then this cover could leave you perplexed about what the song actually means. Trust In Me goes from Disney to erotica. Sea Breezes is the only one that doesn't work for me, always be Roxy.
