Gary Glitter still gets the ocassional spin despite my abhoring his conduct and crimes You will always get stupid people who don't have their personal responsibility to see beyond a piece of music. I must admit I can't enjoy Gary Glitter (not that I did much before he got found out) but where do you draw the line? Back in the 70's Jimmy Page was dating an under-age girl who had already been broken in by Bowie, allegedly...

The Glitter songs were as much, if not more, made through the efforts of Mike Leander and the musicians as they were GG
To what extent should the heinous crimes of one person sully the reputation and efforts of a collective?
Dunno. There's no easy answers
There's many examples of the art v artist debate...
Eric Gill? His Prospero and Ariel from 1932 still adorns BBC’s Broadcasting House. Gill was a serial sexual abuser of his two pubescent daughters and had a long term incestuous relationship with his own sister
Caravaggio? He was a murderer and likely pederast yet gets an easy ride. Perhaps the time between now and then is a factor?
Back to Morrissey - whilst I would never now pay any money for his music I do still listen to and enjoy The Smiths. I reason it's another collective effort and why should Morrissey, who was probably hiding in plain sight even back in the day, ruin the legacy of Marr, Joyce and Rourke + the producers.

If Marr and the rest of them(and this applies to the Glitter Band too)had a shred if decency and principle they'd disown the music they made with these people)
Especially, the Glitter Band.

An unequivocal position and one to ponder - thanks
What about the millions of record buyers who bought the tunes in good faith? Is it okay for them to still listen to The Smiths?

There are a few in the animal rights/vegan community who support Mozza and don't give a fuck about his right wing views because that's about people....and people are animal murdering shits, no matter what colour, creed, religion, in their eyes.

I went to see Morrissey in Leeds last year , out of curiosity really as I had a complimentary ticket , so he didn't get any cash off me.
I don't see much support at all for his views across the fan base. They just want the Morrissey they grew up with, vaguely leftist but concentrating more on personal issues.
But as he still gets to play gigs and release records he can't claim to be cancelled and so even people who agree with him just ignore him.
The victimhood of some on the right is what feeds them so he cannot deny that he's not been gagged despite his bleatings.

That says a lot about a lot of people within animal rights. A lot of right wing zealots. They're right and everyone else is wrong. I'd rather have a left wing carnivore as a friend than a right wing bigoted cunt like Morrissey anyday.

I am a proud wanker then.....I absolutely love the Smiths and by and large the entire Morrissey solo career albums....I have very few true heroes but he is up there with Cantona, Fergie, Bowie and De Niro..if that makes me a wanker then so be it...I can live with that

What do you think of his extreme right wing views?

New interview www.morrissey-solo.com/threads/turning-the-inside-out-july-5-2021.148341/SAM: You mention Generation X and X Ray Spex in 'Rebels Without Applause'. Were these your favourite punk bands?
M: They were great London bands, and it was great collecting their singles … as with The Jam … and the excitement of waiting-to-buy something that would be released on a Thursday … and you could find it in at least ten shops in Manchester, well, it's sad to reflect on how enjoyable all of that was and how it was needlessly chopped away.

I think all of Morrissey's controversial quotes come from a need to be in the limelight. I would take both his right wing beliefs and his commitment to animal causes both with a large pinch of salt. A dull man desperate to be Oscar Wilde.
