Great article about the late, great Alan Harkshaw *
* Countdown and Grange Hill composer, died aged 84 on 17 October 2021The ubiquitous Alan Hawkshaw was the best-known British composer you’d never heard of
The late musician’s track The Champ was sampled on more than 700 other records, while others pop up everywhere from Jay-Z songs to Milk Tray ads. What links them all is his compositional joy and irreverencewww.theguardian.com/music/2021/oct/18/alan-hawkshaw-the-champ-best-known-british-composer-you-never-heard-ofThe man who was responsible for the music for the Milk Tray ads on TV, for the Grange Hill theme, for the themes to Dave Allen at Large, Channel 4 News and Countdown was also responsible for what is often held to be the most sampled instrumental break in history: the organ refrain that opens The Champ by the Mohawks (1968), an ineffably electric and irresistible burst of colour. “People think that’s a black group from Detroit, but it was hashed together by session musicians in Yorkshire,” he said. The Champ (Original Version)www.theguardian.com/music/2021/oct/18/alan-hawkshaw-the-champ-best-known-british-composer-you-never-heard-of

FRANCO MICALIZZI - TRINITA'... (THEME TO 'THEY CALL ME TRINITY' 1972) A few weeks ago an old friend sent me a link to a 1970 Italian Spaghetti Western Comedy called 'They Call Me Trinity' suggesting my band cover the theme tune sung by Annibale Giannarelli - i'd never heard the theme before but LOVED it, so with a bit of detective worked tracked down the title track released on 7" in Portugal. I think this theme may have been rerecorded several times with different singers, but this is definitely the recording from the film, you can hear it here...

...well, if we can 'Rock it up' a bit, then who knows... maybe. The tough bit is the whistling... to do it real justice one of us has got to be in the 'Roger Whittaker League'

I was listening to an unaccredited 60s pirate EP from Singapore last night and wondering who had done the recording
I have just been listening to different versions on line. I am pretty sure it is Hugo Montenegro. Good stuff

For me, it's interesting to learn about the Italian film industry of the 1960s/70s and how they were making their own take on Bond inspired Spy Movies, Westerns... and of course Horror films. They kept alot of fading Hollywood stars in work, when they were not getting offered roles back home.
Here is what a friend from Milan told me about the sequels to 'They Call Me Trinity'...
"Avoid at all costs both sequels 'Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità" (They Kept Calling Him Trinity) and '....e poi lo chiamarono Il Magnifico' (....And Then They Called Him The Magnificent). A terribile experience."
The music from Spagetti Westerns had an influence on rock musicians across the genres. I have always loved Die Toten Hosen's recording of 'Once Upon A Time In The West'...
